Floyd County Medical Center Sets October 1 Groundbreaking for $39.5 Million Phase II Expansion

Floyd County Medical Center (搜索) (FCMC) has set October 1 for the groundbreaking marking the start of Phase II of its hospital expansion in Charles City, Iowa. The project will add five new operating rooms, a new cafeteria and kitchen, and a new materials management department, building on the recently completed $40 million expansion that introduced a new three-story rural health clinic.
The Phase II groundbreaking will take place at 4 PM on October 1 in Charles City and will feature remarks from community and organizational leaders, renderings of the new addition, and light refreshments. FCMC estimates the completion date of Phase II spans the end of 2028 to the beginning of 2029.
Financing and Scope
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (搜索) (USDA) has approved a $27.5 million loan for the Phase II expansion through the Rural Development's Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program. In addition to the USDA loan, FCMC will contribute $4 million in equity and $8 million in commercial lending, bringing the total estimated cost of the Phase II project to $39.5 million.
USDA State Director Mike Sexton said, "This will improve quality of care, modernize the hospital, and provide more space for healthcare providers."

Phase III and the Stille Cancer Center
In addition to Phase II, FCMC is finalizing plans for Phase III, which will encompass the Stille Cancer Center (搜索). Construction for Phase III will begin next year and will have its own groundbreaking celebration sometime in 2027. Construction for Phase II and Phase III will run concurrently as two separate projects and be completed sometime in 2028.
FCMC anticipates that Phase II will take approximately two years to build, with the hospital having hoped to break ground in the fall of 2026.
