The company secured compassionate use approvals in the United States, France, and Israel in 2025, representing significant regulatory milestones for the retinal gene therapy program.
GenSight Biologics announced the successful completion of a €2.9 million fundraising round on December 29, 2025, bringing the company's total fundraising for the year to over €13 million. The latest round was subscribed by three existing shareholders: Heights Capital (搜索), Invus (搜索), and Alumni Capital (搜索), following previous fundraisings of €4.5 million in July, €3.7 million in October, and €2 million in November.
The Paris-based biopharma company, which focuses on developing gene therapies for retinal neurodegenerative diseases (搜索) and central nervous system disorders (搜索), plans to allocate approximately 73% of the net proceeds to finance continued development of its lead product candidate, GS010/LUMEVOQ®.
Regulatory Milestones Drive Momentum
"2025 has been a transformative year for GenSight Biologics," said Laurence Rodriguez, Chief Executive Officer. "Securing compassionate use approvals in three major markets—the United States, France, and Israel—represent a significant regulatory milestone."
The compassionate use approvals mark a critical inflection point for GS010, which is currently in Phase III clinical development for Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (搜索) (LHON (搜索)), a rare mitochondrial disease (搜索) that causes irreversible blindness in teens and young adults. The gene therapy is designed to be administered as a single treatment to each eye via intravitreal injection.
Financial Strategy and Cash Runway
The fundraising extends GenSight's cash runway through February 2026, with revenues from compassionate access programs in France and Israel expected to ensure operational continuity through the remainder of 2026. As of November 30, 2025, the company reported cash and cash equivalents of €1.8 million and financial debt of €24.4 million.
"The various bridge financing rounds since early 2024 demonstrate the unwavering confidence of our investors, enabling us to advance steadily with our programs," said Jan Eryk Umiastowski, Chief Financial Officer. "The compassionate use approvals secured in the United States, France, and Israel mark an inflection point that positions us well for our next phase of growth."
The company structured the fundraising through the issuance of 30.4 million ordinary shares, 6.6 million pre-funded warrants, and 37 million investor warrants, with shares priced at €0.08 representing a 20% discount to the December 24 closing price.
Technology Platform and Pipeline
GenSight's pipeline leverages two core technology platforms: the Mitochondrial Targeting Sequence (搜索) (MTS (搜索)) and optogenetics. The company's approach aims to preserve or restore vision in patients suffering from blinding retinal diseases through gene therapy interventions.
GS010 utilizes the company's proprietary mitochondrial targeting technology and has not yet received marketing authorization in any jurisdiction. The therapy is designed to offer patients sustainable functional visual recovery through its targeted approach to mitochondrial dysfunction underlying LHON (搜索).
Future Funding Strategy
Beyond the current cash runway, GenSight continues to pursue multiple financing options to support the RECOVER Phase III trial and prepare for potential marketing authorization applications. The company is actively exploring non-dilutive financing opportunities including licensing agreements outside North America and Europe, expansion of Early Access Programs beyond France, strategic partnerships, and potential mergers and acquisitions.
The company also plans to support filing of a marketing authorization application with the MHRA in the United Kingdom for GS010/LUMEVOQ® as part of its broader regulatory strategy.
The offered shares are expected to be admitted to trading on Euronext Paris on December 31, 2025, with the new shares carrying current dividend rights and trading under the existing ISIN code FR0013183985.
