GSK Partners with Helix in Multi-Year Precision Medicine Collaboration to Accelerate Drug Development
核心洞察
GSK has entered a multi-year strategic collaboration with Helix (搜索) to integrate genetics and genomics into drug discovery and development processes.
The partnership provides GSK access to Helix (搜索)'s GenoSphere cohorts covering over 228,000 patients across autoimmune, cardiovascular, metabolic, and other disease areas.
The collaboration leverages comprehensive genomic sequencing data combined with longitudinal clinical information to accelerate precision medicine development.
GSK has announced a multi-year strategic collaboration with Helix (搜索), the leading enterprise genomics company, aimed at advancing precision medicine development through comprehensive genomic data integration. The partnership provides GSK access to Helix's continuously growing GenoSphere cohorts, which encompass extensive genomic and clinical datasets across multiple disease areas.
Strategic Integration of Genomics
"We are looking forward to working with Helix (搜索) as part of our strategy to integrate genetics and genomics as a core part of our decision making," said Robert Scott, vice president of human genetics and genomics at GSK. "Bringing Helix into our network of collaborations will greatly enable our work to understand the aetiology of disease, discover, develop and deliver medicines to patients."
The collaboration comes following FDA approval of GSK's Exdensur (搜索) for adolescents and adults with severe asthma (搜索) characterized by an eosinophilic phenotype, highlighting GSK's continued focus on precision medicine approaches.
Comprehensive Genomic Datasets
The partnership centers on Helix (搜索)'s GenoSphere cohorts, which consist of comprehensive Exome+ genomic sequencing combined with rich longitudinal clinical data, enhanced with third-party medical, pharmacy, and mortality claims. These datasets are powered by the Helix Research Network, described as the largest and fastest growing precision health network globally.
The GenoSphere platform includes four distinct cohorts:
Autoimmune Cohort: Comprises fewer than 35,000 patients with whole Exome+ sequencing profiles for individuals diagnosed with conditions including lupus (搜索), rheumatoid arthritis (搜索), psoriasis (搜索), multiple sclerosis (搜索), Hashimoto's disease (搜索), and Crohn's disease (搜索), along with lab results, procedures, and linked medical and pharmacy claims data.
Cardiovascular, Renal, Metabolic Cohort: Includes over 165,000 patients and was created to support target identification and biomarker discovery, as well as help identify and recruit patients for clinical trials.
GLP-1 Receptor (搜索) Agonists Cohort: Consists of whole Exome+ sequencing profiles for upwards of 18,000 patients treated with GLP-1 agonists (搜索), combined with longitudinal and regularly refreshed electronic health record data including demographics, clinical diagnoses for type 2 diabetes (搜索), cardiovascular disease (搜索), obesity (搜索), and kidney diseases (搜索), lab results, procedures, and linked medical and pharmacy claims data.
MASH (搜索)/MAFLD (搜索) Cohort: Comprises fewer than 10,000 participants with whole Exome+ sequencing profiles paired with longitudinal clinical data covering decades, including demographics, related diagnoses, major lab results including Fibrosis-4 scores, past procedures, and the ability to link medical and mortality claims data.
Platform for Drug Development Transformation
James Lu, M.D., Ph.D., CEO of Helix (搜索), emphasized the collaboration's potential impact: "We are excited to establish this foundational collaboration with GSK. The collaboration demonstrates the unparalleled scale and comprehensive utility of our platform to potentially help transform drug development across major therapeutic areas and further cements Helix's role as a catalyst for the future of precision medicine at a global level."
The GenoSphere cohorts are specifically designed to accelerate life sciences research across the development cycle, providing researchers with the genomic intelligence needed to advance precision medicine initiatives. The Helix (搜索) Research Network was designed to help empower health systems to leverage collective genomic intelligence, advance precision medicine, and enhance patient care.
Advancing Precision Medicine
This collaboration represents a significant step in integrating large-scale genomic data with pharmaceutical research and development. By providing access to deeply phenotyped patient cohorts spanning multiple therapeutic areas, the partnership aims to enhance understanding of disease etiology and accelerate the discovery and development of targeted therapies.
The agreement positions both companies to leverage comprehensive genomic datasets for improved patient stratification, biomarker discovery, and clinical trial design across major therapeutic areas including autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular disease (搜索), metabolic conditions, and liver diseases.
