Haemonetics Acquires Vivasure Medical for €100 Million to Expand Large-Bore Vascular Closure Portfolio
核心洞察
Haemonetics will acquire Ireland-based Vivasure Medical (搜索) for €100 million upfront, with potential additional payments of €85 million based on sales milestones.
The acquisition brings Vivasure's PerQSeal Elite (搜索) biosorbable patch system, which received CE mark approval for venous closure and has a pending FDA premarket approval application.
The deal strengthens Haemonetics' position in the $300 million large-bore closure market, particularly for structural heart procedures like transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
Haemonetics announced Friday its acquisition of Vivasure Medical (搜索), an Ireland-based medical device company specializing in percutaneous vessel closure technology, for €100 million upfront with potential milestone payments reaching €85 million. The deal positions Haemonetics to significantly expand its presence in the large-bore vascular closure market, particularly for structural heart and endovascular procedures.
Strategic Expansion into Large-Bore Market
The acquisition brings Vivasure's PerQSeal Elite (搜索) system into Haemonetics' portfolio, a biosorbable patch technology designed to seal large-bore incisions to arteries or veins from inside the vessel. Ken Crowley, general manager of interventional technologies at Haemonetics, stated the acquisition is expected to bolster the company's presence in the large-bore closure market and provide greater impact in fast-growing structural heart and endovascular procedures.
When accounting for previous investments and loans, the net upfront payment totals approximately €52 million. Vivasure remains eligible for an additional €85 million contingent on achieving specific sales growth and operational milestones.
Regulatory Progress and Clinical Evidence
Vivasure's PerQSeal Elite (搜索) system received the European CE mark last year for venous closure applications, building on a previous indication for arterial procedures. The company submitted a premarket approval application to the FDA last year, supported by results from a single-arm clinical study demonstrating no complications after 30 days of follow-up.
The regulatory pathway represents a critical step for market entry in the United States, where competition in the large-bore closure space remains limited but is expected to intensify.
Market Dynamics and Competitive Landscape
Haemonetics estimates the total available market for large-bore closure devices at $300 million. Currently, Teleflex's Manta (搜索) device holds the distinction as the only FDA-approved large-bore closure system available in the U.S. market. However, Needham analyst Mike Matson anticipates increased competition as additional companies, including Cordis, prepare market entries.
The acquisition enables Haemonetics to expand its vascular closure offerings into larger-bore procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement and endovascular aortic aneurysm repair. Matson noted that Vivasure's system should complement Haemonetics' existing device portfolio.
Strategic Portfolio Development
This acquisition continues Haemonetics' focused expansion strategy in cardiovascular procedures. The company previously acquired Attune Medical (搜索) in 2024, which develops esophageal protection devices for cardiac ablation procedures, and purchased Cardiva Medical (搜索) in 2021 for its vascular closure systems.
The pattern of acquisitions demonstrates Haemonetics' commitment to building comprehensive solutions for interventional cardiovascular procedures, particularly in rapidly growing market segments where technological innovation drives clinical adoption.
