The monoclonal, known as MBP-134, is manufactured by San Diego-based MappBio (搜索) with financial support from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA (搜索)), which owns the doses. An HHS spokesperson did not stipulate how many doses had been set aside for the clinical trial.
The monoclonal antibody has already undergone a Phase 1 safety trial. The World Health Organization (WHO), one of the sponsors of the trial, stated that the trial protocol is currently under review by ethics committees and regulatory authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

The clinical trial comes at a critical juncture. As of the report date, the number of confirmed Ebola (搜索) cases in the DRC has reached 1,048, with 267 deaths. The escalating case count underscores the pressing need for effective therapeutic interventions against the virus.

The Trump administration has made clear it does not want anyone infected with or exposed to Ebola to be repatriated to the U.S. for quarantine and treatment. Instead, the administration has stated that should Americans be infected in the field, they will be sent to currently undisclosed European countries for treatment.
