Hypervision Surgical (搜索), a medical technology spinout from King's College London, has completed a £17 million Series A funding round to accelerate the commercial deployment of its breakthrough hyperspectral imaging technology for surgery. The oversubscribed round was led by Heal Capital (搜索) with participation from Angelini Ventures (搜索), IP Group (搜索), and Daycrest (搜索), along with follow-on investment from existing investors including HEARN Partners (搜索), Redalpine (搜索), LifeX Ventures (搜索), and ZEISS Ventures (搜索).
The funding also includes strategic investment from SAGES Ingenuity (搜索), the for-profit innovation arm of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (搜索) (SAGES), and Macmillan Cancer Support (搜索), the UK's leading cancer charity, providing validation from both clinical and patient communities.
Revolutionary Surgical Imaging Technology
Hypervision's core innovation lies in its Hyperspectral Intelligence (搜索)® platform, which transforms traditional surgical imaging through the integration of proprietary on-chip spectral sensing, patented AI analytics, and cloud-scalable architecture. The technology uses light-matter interactions between wavelengths and biological materials to reveal tissue health characteristics that are invisible to the naked eye, including composition and blood oxygenation.

The platform addresses a critical limitation in modern surgery, where despite advances in digital and robotic surgery, surgeons still primarily rely on visual examination to guide important intraoperative decisions. Hyperspectral imaging aims to break down these visual barriers by providing quantitative tissue insights during operations.
Clinical Deployment and FDA Clearance
HYPERSNAP (搜索)®, Hypervision's first commercial surgical system, represents the initial clinical deployment of the Hyperspectral Intelligence (搜索)® platform. Built on NVIDIA (搜索) IGX architecture, the system leverages advanced edge computing capabilities to support real-time AI inference in the operating room. The technology is certified in the UK and cleared by the US FDA for open and minimally-invasive general surgery.
The system has been selected for the FDA's Safer Technologies Program (STeP), which recognized its potential to significantly improve the safety of existing surgical procedures. To date, the company has conducted over 170 surgical procedures across three UK NHS trusts, with St Thomas' Hospital serving as a major contributor to clinical evaluation, performing more than 60 colorectal procedures including the very first implementation.
Strategic Partnerships and Development
Hypervision was founded by Dr. Michael Ebner, a King's post-doctoral researcher at the time, along with Tom Vercauteren, Professor of Interventional Image Computing, Jonathan Shapey, Clinical Reader, and Professor Sebastien Ourselin FREng FMedSci, Head of School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences. The company operates as part of the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (搜索) (LIHE) and St Thomas' MedTech ecosystem.
The funding will advance development of next-generation hyperspectral sensing technology co-developed with imec (搜索), a global leader in semiconductor and spectral sensing technologies, towards a scalable, cloud-enabled surgical intelligence platform. The company's goal is to integrate Hyperspectral Intelligence (搜索)® into laparoscopic, robotic, microscopic, and endoscopic surgical platforms.
Investment and Board Expansion
As part of the financing, Tanja Dowe, Managing Partner at Angelini Ventures (搜索), will join Hypervision's Board of Directors. "We believe Hypervision Surgical (搜索) is redefining what is possible in surgical visualization," said Dowe. "Hypervision's technology has the potential to significantly improve surgical outcomes and patient safety. We are excited to support the team as they scale this breakthrough platform and bring it into clinical practice."
The Series A funding will be used to build on learnings from existing clinical deployments and expand use across more UK, European, and US sites. According to Ebner, the St Thomas' MedTech ecosystem has been instrumental to the company's commercial success, helping to "reduce barriers to complex surgical device development, significantly accelerating product development and clinical evaluation cycles."
The technology platform moves surgical imaging from a static, hardware-constrained model to a flexible, software-centric paradigm designed for continuous evolution, transforming traditional surgical cameras into data-rich diagnostic tools capable of reading data in the hundreds of millions of surgeries performed each year.
