Facilitated under ICMR's Medical Innovations Patent Mitra initiative, the agreements involve Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Biological E Ltd. (搜索), targeting cervical precancerous lesions and enteric bacterial infections, respectively.
The technology transfer encompasses SHetA2, a first-in-class targeted therapeutic candidate for the treatment of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (搜索) (CIN), and two next-generation vaccine technologies against major enteric bacterial pathogens.
SHetA2: A First-in-Class Anti-HPV (搜索) Therapeutic
SHetA2 represents a novel approach to addressing human papillomavirus (HPV (搜索))-induced precancerous and cancerous cervical lesions. Developed through an international collaboration between Dr. Showket Hussain at the ICMR National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research (ICMR-NICPR) and Dr. Doris M. Benbrook at the Stephenson Cancer Center, University of Oklahoma, USA, SHetA2 is designed to selectively eliminate HPV-induced precancerous and cervical cancer (搜索) cells while sparing healthy cells.
The therapeutic candidate has been licensed to Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. for further development, manufacturing, and commercialization. According to ICMR, the technology has the potential to provide a safe, affordable, and minimally invasive treatment option for cervical cancer (搜索), addressing a significant unmet need in women's health.
Next-Generation Enteric Vaccines Licensed to Biological E
The second component of the technology transfer involves two vaccine technologies developed by Dr. Santasabuj Das and his research team at the ICMR–National Institute of Research in Bacterial Infections (ICMR-NIRBI) in Kolkata. These have been licensed to Biological E Ltd. (搜索):
- A fusion construct containing Salmonella typhi outer membrane protein, positioned as a promising next-generation typhoid vaccine candidate.
- A recombinant vaccine composition targeting Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, and Shigella infections, designed to provide broader protection against major enteric bacterial pathogens.
Together, these vaccine technologies aim to strengthen India's capacity to combat enteric bacterial diseases through indigenous innovation.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary of the Department of Health Research (DHR) and Director General of ICMR, emphasized the strategic importance of these licensing agreements.
