核心洞察
Idorsia has entered an exclusive distribution agreement with Pharmalink for QUVIVIQ (daridorexant) across five Gulf Cooperation Council countries including UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain.
QUVIVIQ represents a novel dual orexin receptor (搜索) antagonist that targets overactive wake signaling without broadly suppressing brain activity, offering an alternative to traditional hypnotics.
Clinical trials published in The Lancet Neurology demonstrated significant improvements in sleep onset, maintenance, and daytime functioning at both 25mg and 50mg doses compared to placebo.
Idorsia Ltd has secured a strategic partnership with Pharmalink Drug Store L.L.C to expand access to its innovative insomnia treatment QUVIVIQ (daridorexant) across five Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The exclusive distribution and commercialization agreement covers the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain, marking a significant expansion of the drug's global footprint.
Partnership Structure and Commercial Terms
Under the agreement announced March 10, 2026, Idorsia will receive an upfront payment while retaining Marketing Authorizations for all covered territories. Upon regulatory approval, Idorsia will supply finished drug product to Pharmalink at predetermined pricing, while Pharmalink assumes responsibility for distribution, promotion, and sales activities across the specified region.
"We are delighted to partner with Pharmalink, a leading healthcare provider that shares our bold vision for QUVIVIQ's growth across the UAE and other Gulf states," said Srishti Gupta, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Idorsia. "I am confident that this partnership will ensure that many patients gain access to our innovative treatment for insomnia - the only medication to have shown improvement on daytime functioning and treat insomnia as a 24-hour disorder."
Addressing Regional Medical Needs
The partnership targets a significant unmet medical need in the Gulf region, where insomnia prevalence is notably high. Abdul Rauf Jabour, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Pharmalink, emphasized the regional significance: "We are extremely pleased to partner with Idorsia to introduce QUVIVIQ to the UAE and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council region. Insomnia is highly prevalent in the GCC region and an innovative brand like QUVIVIQ would rightly address the patient's needs."
Pharmalink brings substantial regional expertise to the collaboration, operating with more than 1,800 employees and maintaining a fully integrated commercialization infrastructure. The company's retail network includes over 200 pharmacies through its Medicina and Al Manara chains, ensuring comprehensive market penetration for in-licensed brands.
Novel Mechanism of Action
QUVIVIQ differentiates itself from traditional hypnotics through its unique dual orexin receptor (搜索) antagonist mechanism. The drug selectively targets the orexin system to regulate overactive wake signaling without broadly suppressing brain activity. This approach addresses insomnia as a condition of overactive wake signaling, where brain areas associated with wakefulness remain more active during sleep in affected patients.
The drug's optimized pharmacokinetics promote restorative sleep throughout the entire night while reducing morning sleepiness and improving daytime functioning. This represents a departure from commonly used treatments that can lead to next-day drowsiness, dependence, and withdrawal symptoms.
Clinical Evidence and Efficacy
Clinical trials published in The Lancet Neurology provided robust evidence for daridorexant's efficacy. The studies demonstrated that daridorexant significantly improved sleep onset, sleep maintenance, and self-reported total sleep time at both 25mg and 50mg doses compared to placebo. Notably, the 50mg dose also showed highly significant improvement in daytime functioning compared to placebo.
These results address the dual nature of insomnia, which is defined as a combination of dissatisfaction with sleep and significant negative impact on daytime functioning. The condition requires difficulty initiating and/or maintaining sleep on at least three nights per week for at least three months, despite adequate opportunity to sleep.
Global Market Expansion
The Pharmalink agreement represents another milestone in Idorsia's strategy to establish QUVIVIQ as a global brand. The drug is currently marketed by Idorsia in the United States, Canada, and multiple European countries. Commercial partnerships have enabled availability in Japan, Hong Kong, and China, while license and supply agreements with EMS cover Latin America and CTS serves Israel.
This expanding global presence reflects the widespread nature of insomnia, which affects millions worldwide and represents a persistent condition with negative impacts on both physical and mental health. Idorsia's research has demonstrated that poor-quality sleep affects multiple aspects of daily life, including concentration ability, mood, and energy levels.
The current treatment landscape for insomnia includes sleep hygiene recommendations, cognitive behavioral therapy, and pharmacotherapy, with management goals focused on improving sleep quality, quantity, and daytime functioning. QUVIVIQ's unique mechanism positions it as a differentiated option within this therapeutic framework.
