ImmuPharma's P140 Cuts Inflammation and Fibrosis in MASH Model as Company Files International Patent for Type M Precision Medicine
核心洞察
ImmuPharma published preclinical research showing its lead peptide P140 reduced both inflammation and fibrosis (搜索) in mice with advanced metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (搜索) (MASH).
A dummy version of the peptide produced none of these effects, strengthening the case that the observed changes were attributable to P140 itself.
The company filed a Patent Cooperation Treaty application covering its P140 precision medicine approach, including identification and treatment of patients with the Type M immune profile.
ImmuPharma PLC (搜索) has published new preclinical research suggesting its lead peptide P140 could have activity in liver disease, while simultaneously filing an international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application covering its precision medicine approach in autoimmune disease. The two developments broaden the potential uses of P140, a peptide the company hopes to license out in a value-enhancing deal.
P140 Reduces Inflammation and Fibrosis in MASH Model
The new study, published in Volume 232 of the journal Pharmacological Research, tested P140 in mice with an advanced form of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (搜索) (MASH), a fatty liver disease marked by inflammation and scarring. Treatment cut both the inflammation and the fibrosis (搜索) and improved a range of markers linked to the disease, according to the company.
A dummy version of the peptide produced none of these effects, strengthening the case that the changes were down to P140 itself.
The work was carried out by researchers at France's CNRS and the University of Strasbourg, including Professor Sylviane Muller, who co-invented the compound. Muller said the results offered important new evidence of the drug's activity and supported further investigation across diseases driven by faulty cellular housekeeping.
P140 was originally developed as a treatment for lupus (搜索), so the MASH findings point to a broader biological reach for the compound.
PCT Filing Covers Type M Precision Medicine Approach
Separately, ImmuPharma announced it had filed a PCT application relating to its P140 precision medicine approach in autoimmune disease, including the identification and treatment of patients with the Type M immune profile. Type M refers to a biologically defined patient population characterised by an immune profile associated with an increased likelihood or magnitude of response to P140.
The filing builds on an original UK priority patent application lodged in August 2025 and announced by the company in September 2025. During the 12-month priority period, ImmuPharma continued its experimental program and generated additional data supporting the scientific basis of the P140 and Type M approach; these new results have been incorporated into the PCT application and have expanded the scientific package supporting the filing.
The PCT application will now progress through the international phase, including an international patent search and subsequent publication of the application. The PCT process provides ImmuPharma with a route to pursue patent protection in selected national and regional jurisdictions, and the company will determine the key commercial territories in which it intends to enter the national and regional phases.
Dr Sébastien Goudreau, Chief Scientific Officer of ImmuPharma PLC (搜索), said: "The filing of the PCT application represents an important next step in protecting the intellectual property generated through our work on P140 and Type M. During the priority period, we continued to generate additional experimental data, which have now been incorporated into PCT application and further support the scientific rationale underlying our precision medicine approach. The PCT filing enables us to progress our international patent strategy alongside the broader development of P140."
Partnering Discussions Continue
Tim McCarthy, Chief Executive Officer of ImmuPharma PLC (搜索), described P140 as a key strategic asset and repeated that the company remains focused on completing a value-enhancing commercial deal in 2026. "With the PCT filing now completed and additional supporting data incorporated into the application, P140 continues to progress as a key strategic asset for ImmuPharma. Our focus remains on advancing discussions and completing a value-enhancing commercial deal in 2026," McCarthy said.
ImmuPharma PLC (搜索) (LSE AIM: IMM) is a specialty biopharmaceutical company that discovers and develops peptide-based therapeutics, with a portfolio that includes novel peptide therapeutics for autoimmune diseases and anti-infectives. The company said it will provide further updates on the P140 program as appropriate.
