The Madison, Wisconsin and Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotechnology company plans to use the funding to advance its internal oncology pipeline toward IND-enabling studies and expand into immunology and inflammation applications.
Novel Approach to Target Discovery
The collaboration addresses what CEO Faraz A. Choudhury identifies as drug discovery's primary challenge. "The greatest challenge in drug discovery today is not the lack of modalities; it's the shortage of truly novel, disease-specific targets," said Choudhury. "The vast majority of drug targets overlap with healthy tissues, which drives toxicity and narrow therapeutic windows. Our data-driven platform reveals a hidden dimension of the cell surfaceome that conventional omics approaches cannot see, opening new therapeutic opportunities across cancer and other diseases."
Under the partnership terms, Immuto will work with Daiichi Sankyo Research Institute Boston to discover new targets in solid tumors using its proprietary structural surfaceomics platform and develop antibodies against these targets. Daiichi Sankyo holds an option to license resulting assets, though financial terms of the collaboration were not disclosed.
Structural Surfaceomics Technology
Immuto's platform represents what Chief Technology Officer Dan Benjamin describes as "an untapped frontier in drug discovery." The technology integrates high-resolution structural proteomics, live-cell protein structural assessment, and advanced AI-enabled analytics to interrogate conformational differences across thousands of proteins simultaneously, even in heterogeneous, patient-derived samples.
"By targeting cancer-specific surface structures, we have the opportunity to develop first-in-class therapies with truly differentiated precision and selectivity," Benjamin explained. The platform's structural epitope-mapping engine identifies disease-specific surface protein conformations that remain invisible to other omics approaches, potentially unlocking highly selective therapeutic targets.
Platform Validation and Pipeline Progress
The company has demonstrated target identification capabilities across multiple tumor types and is currently advancing its lead program through in vivo studies. By identifying epitopes specific to disease states, the platform enables discovery of first-in-class targets suited to highly disease-specific modalities, providing opportunities for improved therapeutic indices and translational success.
