Infinimmune Raises $75M Series A to Advance IL-22 and IL-13 Antibodies for Atopic Dermatitis Toward 2027 Clinical Entry
核心洞察
Infinimmune (搜索) closed a $75 million Series A financing co-led by Regeneron Ventures (搜索) and Playground Global (搜索) to advance two wholly owned monoclonal antibodies targeting atopic dermatitis (搜索).
Lead asset IFX-101 (搜索) is a half-life extended, fully human monoclonal antibody targeting IL-22 (搜索), a pathway with no approved biologic currently available in atopic dermatitis (搜索).
Second program IFX-201 (搜索) targets IL-13 (搜索) and is positioned as potentially best-in-class relative to approved IL-13 inhibitors based on neutralization potency and extended dosing intervals.
Alameda, California-based Infinimmune (搜索) has closed a $75 million Series A financing round to advance two wholly owned monoclonal antibodies targeting complementary inflammatory pathways in atopic dermatitis (搜索), with both programs expected to enter first-in-human studies in 2027. The round was co-led by Regeneron Ventures (搜索) and Playground Global (搜索), with participation from RA Capital Management, Goldcrest Capital, Forge Life Science Partners, Godfrey Capital, Wild Tree Ventures, and existing investors including Merck Global Health Innovation Fund, Everbright Biofund, Civilization Ventures, and Pear VC.
The financing builds on Infinimmune (搜索)'s $12 million seed round led by Playground Global (搜索) in December 2022, when the company was founded by a team of five researchers who had worked together at 10x Genomics on single-cell sequencing and immune repertoire technologies.
Targeting Unmet Needs in a Competitive Landscape
Infinimmune (搜索)'s lead asset, IFX-101 (搜索), is a half-life extended, fully human monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-22 (IL-22 (搜索)), a pathway for which no approved biologic currently exists in atopic dermatitis (搜索). The company claims IFX-101 has the potential to be a first- and best-in-class therapy. Its second program, IFX-201 (搜索), targets IL-13 (搜索) — a validated cytokine in the Th2 inflammatory cascade — and is positioned as potentially best-in-class relative to approved IL-13 inhibitors tralokinumab and lebrikizumab, on the basis of neutralization potency and extended dosing intervals.
"The field is clinically crowded in atopic dermatitis (搜索), but is not commercially crowded," CEO Wyatt McDonnell told BioPharma Dive. "From a mechanism perspective, the same thing is true. The existing systemic biologics treat a very specific inflammatory pathway."
Currently, four injectable biologics are approved for atopic dermatitis (搜索): Dupixent (Sanofi/Regeneron), Eli Lilly's Ebglyss, Galderma's Nemluvio, and Leo Pharma's Adbry. All target inflammatory cytokines such as IL-13 (搜索) or IL-31, and all require injections every 2 to 8 weeks. Dupixent, while one of the world's best-selling medicines, does not work for everyone, requires frequent injections, and acts slowly — leaving opportunities for superior alternatives. The global market for atopic dermatitis therapies is estimated to reach $37.3 billion by 2033, according to Grand View Research.
The Anthrobody Platform and External Validation
Both IFX-101 (搜索) and IFX-201 (搜索) were built using Infinimmune (搜索)'s Anthrobody discovery platform, which screens human memory B cells to identify naturally occurring antibodies while preserving their native heavy- and light-chain pairing. The company combines this approach with GLIMPSE, an antibody language model trained on human antibody sequences, to select and optimize therapeutic candidates.
The platform has attracted external validation: Infinimmune (搜索) entered a multi-target antibody discovery collaboration with Merck & Co. (搜索) in March 2026, carrying up to approximately $838 million in upfront and potential milestone payments.
A Crowded Race with Differentiation Potential
Infinimmune (搜索) is not alone in targeting IL-22 (搜索). A drug Pfizer once acquired and later scrapped was aimed at that protein, as is a medicine Argenx and Leo Pharma are collaborating on. IFX-201 (搜索), meanwhile, faces competition from Apogee Therapeutics and Nektar Therapeutics, which have been developing longer-lasting eczema treatments; Kymera Therapeutics, which is working on an oral therapy; and Attovia Therapeutics, which recently priced an initial public offering and has a bispecific antibody for eczema.
McDonnell acknowledged the competitive pressure, stating, "We are aware of the need for aggressive execution on this front." He added that both antibodies could be useful in many other inflammatory conditions beyond atopic dermatitis (搜索).
Proceeds from the Series A will accelerate clinical development of the two lead programs, support additional pipeline candidates, and fund continued deployment of the Anthrobody platform. Both candidates remain pre-clinical, with first-in-human studies planned for 2027.
