InMed Pharmaceuticals Winds Down BayMedica Operations to Focus on CB1/CB2 Receptor Drug Pipeline
核心洞察
InMed Pharmaceuticals announced the wind down of its BayMedica (搜索) subsidiary's commercial operations due to pending U.S. federal legislation that would prohibit certain cannabinoid business activities.
The company will refocus exclusively on advancing its pharmaceutical pipeline, including INM-901 for Alzheimer's disease (搜索) and INM-089 for dry age-related macular degeneration (搜索) toward IND filings.
BayMedica (搜索) expects to incur approximately $670,000 in wind-down costs, including severance and operational expenses, with completion targeted before June 30, 2026.
InMed Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: INM) announced March 6, 2026, that it will wind down the commercial operations of its wholly owned subsidiary BayMedica (搜索) LLC due to impending U.S. federal legislation that would materially impact the cannabinoid business. The Vancouver-based pharmaceutical company will pivot to focus exclusively on advancing its pipeline of disease-modifying small molecule drug candidates targeting CB1/CB2 receptors (搜索).
Regulatory Pressure Drives Strategic Shift
The decision stems from H.R. 5371, the "Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act, 2026," which in its current form would prohibit certain aspects of BayMedica (搜索)'s commercial business and its inventory of rare, non-intoxicating cannabinoids when it becomes effective November 12, 2026.
On March 4, 2026, InMed's board of directors ratified the decision to wind down BayMedica (搜索)'s commercial operations segment. The subsidiary intends to substantially complete the exit prior to the end of its fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, while continuing sales, marketing, limited manufacturing, and logistics during the interim period.
Focus Shifts to Pharmaceutical Pipeline
Following the commercial wind-down, InMed will concentrate resources on advancing its core drug development programs toward IND filings and initial human clinical trials. The pipeline includes INM-901 for Alzheimer's disease (搜索) and INM-089 for dry age-related macular degeneration (搜索), both targeting CB1/CB2 receptors (搜索).
"Following an extensive evaluation of BayMedica (搜索)'s commercial outlook amid increasing regulatory uncertainty, BayMedica's leadership determined to wind down its commercial activities," said Eric A. Adams, Chief Executive Officer of InMed. "After careful review, the Board agreed that this strategic step is warranted given the current legislative environment and, further, enables InMed to focus its full internal resources on the development and advancement of our proprietary pharmaceutical drug development programs, which have the greatest potential to deliver long-term shareholder value."
Financial Impact and Timeline
The wind-down will be executed to minimize disruption to customers, suppliers, and employees. BayMedica (搜索) expects to incur severance and other employee-related costs of approximately $550,000 and additional related expenditures of approximately $120,000 through the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. These costs are expected to be partially offset by profits from product sales during the transition period.
InMed has filed unaudited pro forma consolidated financial information in a Form 8-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and expects to provide additional updates in future earnings releases and periodic filings. The company plans to update shareholders on its pharmaceutical pipeline progress in the near term.
