The Charleston, South Carolina-based biopharmaceutical company announced the completion of the deal on November 25, 2025, though specific financial terms were not disclosed.
Novel Mechanism Targets Multiple Cancer Components
IVT-8086 distinguishes itself as the only cancer therapeutic that targets multiple cell types associated with cancer through a common pathway. The antibody antagonizes SFRP2 (搜索), a protein secreted by tumor and endothelial cells that activates the non-canonical Wnt/Calcium signaling cascade. This pathway plays crucial roles in angiogenesis, cell survival, cell growth and proliferation, cell migration and invasion, oncogenesis, and metastasis in cancer.
"IVT-8086's unique mechanism of action, antagonizing SFRP2 (搜索) and selectively blocking the non-canonical Wnt/Ca2+ pathway, holds substantial promise for addressing a spectrum of solid tumors, including pediatric osteosarcoma, sarcomas, breast cancer and pancreatic cancer," said Robert Ryan, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Innova Therapeutics (搜索).
Preclinical Data Shows Multi-Target Effects
In preclinical models, IVT-8086 demonstrated multiple antitumor effects by blocking SFRP2 (搜索). The antibody induced potent reduction in tumor burden in both primary and metastatic tumors, reduced expression of CD38 and PD-1 in tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, and inhibited angiogenesis. Additionally, the treatment increased interferon gamma in tumor-associated macrophages, resulting in macrophage repolarization and a subsequent increase in the M1/M2 ratio.
The therapeutic targets tumor cells directly while simultaneously affecting multiple components of the tumor microenvironment, including endothelial cells, T-cells, and tumor-associated macrophages through the common SFRP2 (搜索) pathway.
Broad Cancer Application Potential
The SFRP2 (搜索) pathway shows high expression across numerous solid and hematologic malignancies, positioning IVT-8086 as a potential therapy for multiple cancer types. Extensive internal and external validation has confirmed SFRP2 as a critical molecular target, with expression levels strongly correlating with patient outcomes.
The company is developing IVT-8086 for use both as monotherapy and in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors. Initial development efforts focus on pediatric osteosarcoma, sarcomas, breast cancer, multiple myeloma, and pancreatic cancer.
Diagnostic Development and Patent Protection
Alongside the therapeutic development, a diagnostic assay is in development to serve multiple purposes: as a potential marker for early cancer detection, a prognostic tool for assessing therapeutic benefit, and an indicator for cancer recurrence risk.
Ryan, who has worked for more than 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry developing cancer therapies, emphasized the platform's commercial potential. "This cancer treatment platform has the highest potential in my view to change the paradigm of treatment of patients with many types of solid and hematological cancers, resulting in long term survival," he said. The company holds extensive global patent protection, including composition of matter, through 2042 and beyond.
