Iolyx Therapeutics Secures $280M Partnership with Laboratoires Théa for Autoimmune Dry Eye Treatment
核心洞察
Iolyx Therapeutics (搜索) has entered a strategic partnership with Laboratoires Théa worth up to $280 million for the development and commercialization of ILYX-002 for autoimmune-associated dry eye disease (搜索).
Phase 2 clinical trial data demonstrated statistically significant improvement in corneal staining starting at day 15 in patients with challenging autoimmune conditions.
The company simultaneously raised $15 million in Series B funding led by Frazier Life Sciences (搜索) to support pipeline expansion into retinal diseases.
Iolyx Therapeutics (搜索), a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on immuno-ophthalmology, has secured a strategic partnership with global ophthalmic specialty company Laboratoires Théa worth up to $280 million for the development and commercialization of ILYX-002, a treatment for autoimmune-associated dry eye disease (搜索). The announcement, made on December 3, 2025, coincides with a $15 million Series B financing round led by Frazier Life Sciences (搜索).
Partnership Structure and Financial Terms
Under the license and development agreement, Iolyx has granted Théa exclusive worldwide development and commercialization rights to ILYX-002 for ocular surface diseases (搜索), excluding Asia. The deal includes clinical, regulatory and commercial conditional milestones, tiered royalties of up to 21% on net sales, and reimbursement of ILYX-002 research and development expenses.
The strategic partnership covers treatment of dry eye disease (搜索) (DED) associated with systemic autoimmune disorders across all global geographies, excluding China, Japan, and certain other countries in Asia. Théa will assume primary responsibility for conducting Phase 3 clinical trials and securing regional marketing authorizations, while Iolyx remains responsible for trial design, manufacturing, and non-clinical activities.
"Partnering with Théa positions ILYX-002 to move rapidly into pivotal studies and, if approved, to patients worldwide," said Elizabeth Jeffords, Chief Executive Officer and President of Iolyx Therapeutics (搜索). "By combining Iolyx's deep immune-ophthalmology expertise with Théa's complementary late-stage development and commercial scale, this collaboration creates the synergy needed to deliver better, patient-centric medicines for immuno-ophthalmology."
Phase 2 Clinical Trial Results
The partnership is built on encouraging Phase 2 clinical trial data for ILYX-002 in patients with autoimmune-associated dry eye disease (搜索), reported at ARVO in May 2025. The trial demonstrated statistically significant clinical improvement in corneal staining starting at day 15 in patients with challenging autoimmune conditions, along with clinically relevant trends in the primary endpoint of total conjunctival staining and exploratory symptomatic endpoints. ILYX-002 showed early positive and sustained impacts at day 15 and week 8.
The ILYX-002-201 trial was a first-in-human Phase 2 clinical study designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of ILYX-002 in patients with moderate-to-severe dry eye disease (搜索) associated with systemic autoimmune or inflammatory disorders. Conducted across multiple sites in Australia, the randomized, double-masked, and vehicle-controlled study included 105 participants who were randomized to receive either ILYX-002 or vehicle control, administered twice daily for eight weeks, followed by a two-week safety follow-up period.
"These Phase 2 results are highly encouraging for patients with autoimmune-associated dry eye disease (搜索), a condition that has long lacked safe and effective options," said Jean-Frédéric Chibret, President of the Théa group. "They confirm ILYX-002's potential to address one of ophthalmology's most challenging conditions."
Strategic Implications and Market Expansion
The partnership represents Théa's strategic move to establish a meaningful presence in the U.S. dry eye market, leveraging decades of acknowledged expertise in dry eye management across Europe. Upon approval in respective regions, Théa will be responsible for all commercial activities including sales, marketing, and market access.
The concurrent Series B financing will support Iolyx's pipeline expansion into autoimmune-associated retinal diseases. "Our additional investment reflects continued conviction in Iolyx's team, science, and strategy," said Dan Estes, Partner at Frazier Life Sciences (搜索). "The Phase 2 data in immune-driven dry eye provide a strong foundation for late-stage development, and this Series B financing and partnership will support Phase 3 readiness for ILYX-002 while enabling Iolyx to expand its pipeline into autoimmune-associated retinal diseases."
