Werner brings over 25 years of pharmaceutical experience from Bristol Myers Squibb (搜索), AstraZeneca, and Novartis, with deep expertise in oncology and rare diseases that align with Ipsen's core therapeutic areas.
The appointment comes as Ipsen accelerates its growth strategy across oncology, rare diseases, and neuroscience, with the company expecting sales growth to accelerate to 13% in 2026.
French biopharmaceutical company Ipsen has appointed Michelle Werner (搜索) as Executive Vice President and President of North America, effective March 23, 2026. Werner will join Ipsen's Executive Leadership Team and report directly to CEO David Loew as the company accelerates its growth strategy across oncology, rare diseases, and neuroscience.
Leadership Transition
Werner replaces Keira Driansky, who is leaving the company after two years to pursue external opportunities. During Driansky's tenure, she led a transformation of the U.S. affiliate that increased growth in U.S. sales and enhanced Ipsen's brand visibility in the American market.
"I am very pleased to welcome Michelle to Ipsen and to the Executive Leadership Team," said David Loew, CEO. "She brings a wealth of experience in leading teams both in the U.S. and around the world and has a deep understanding of the United States and all the great opportunities that this market offers for Ipsen at a moment when we are accelerating the growth of our portfolio in rare diseases, oncology and neurosciences."
Extensive Industry Experience
Werner joins Ipsen from Alltrna (搜索), a U.S.-based biotech specializing in transfer RNA therapeutics for genetic diseases (搜索), where she has served as President and CEO since 2022. Her departure from the Flagship Pioneering-backed company was accompanied by a major reduction in headcount, with the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based firm now being led by president and chief financial officer Joanne Protano.
Over her 25-plus year pharmaceutical career, Werner has held senior positions across multiple major companies. At Bristol Myers Squibb (搜索), she progressed from sales and commercial roles in the UK to global positions, including Director for Global Market Access for Oncology & Virology portfolios, Global Brand Lead for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (搜索), and U.S. Brand Lead for the Reyataz and Evotaz franchises.
In 2015, Werner moved to AstraZeneca as Head of the Immuno-Oncology franchise and Oncology business unit in the U.S., where she oversaw several major product launches. She later served as Country President for the Nordics & Baltics based in Sweden before returning to the U.S. as Global Franchise Head for Hematology in 2020.
Werner subsequently joined Novartis Oncology as Global Franchise Head for Solid Tumors before her role at Alltrna (搜索).
Strategic Timing
The appointment comes at a critical juncture for Ipsen, which reported sales growth of nearly 11% last year and expects that rate to accelerate to 13% in 2026. However, the company faces challenges including competition to its major acromegaly (搜索) and neuroendocrine tumor (搜索) drug Somatuline from generic lanreotide products, and the recent withdrawal of blood cancer (搜索) therapy Tazverik from the market due to safety concerns.
"I am thrilled to be joining the Executive Leadership Team and look forward to leading Ipsen's operations and teams in the United States at such a fascinating moment of the company's transformation," Werner said. "Joining a company that brings together two therapeutic areas where I have deep passion and expertise such as rare diseases and oncology, is one of those unique opportunities that comes at the right time in my journey."
Company Focus
Ipsen operates as a global biopharmaceutical company focused on bringing transformative medicines to patients in three therapeutic areas: Oncology, Rare Disease and Neuroscience. The company's pipeline is supported by nearly 100 years of development experience and global hubs in the U.S., France and the U.K., with teams in more than 40 countries enabling medicine delivery to patients in more than 100 countries.
