Isofol Medical Secures European Patent Protection for Cancer Drug Arfolitixorin Until 2043

Isofol Medical AB announced that the European Patent Office (搜索) (EPO) has issued an Intention to Grant notice for a new product patent covering its cancer (搜索) drug candidate arfolitixorin. The patent, once formally granted, will provide intellectual property protection until 2043 and significantly strengthens the company's position for long-term development and commercialization of the therapeutic candidate.
Patent Coverage and Strategic Value
The new patent is filed under the international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and specifically covers pharmaceutical compositions comprising arfolitixorin in the form of stable lyophilizates for clinical use. The Intention to Grant notice indicates the patent will be granted by the EPO, providing access to national patents in up to 39 member states following completion of final formalities.
"This new product patent protection significantly strengthens arfolitixorin's intellectual property position well into the mid-2040's, supporting the long-term development and commercialization of arfolitixorin and materially increasing the project's value," said Petter Segelman Lindqvist, CEO of Isofol.
Clinical Development Program
Arfolitixorin is designed to enhance the efficacy of standard cancer (搜索) treatments and is currently being evaluated in a clinical phase Ib/II study in metastatic colorectal cancer (搜索) at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. The study is investigating a new dosing regimen that is expected to further increase the drug candidate's therapeutic effect.
The drug candidate aims to increase the effect of first-line standard treatment for several forms of solid tumors (搜索), with current focus on colorectal cancer (搜索), which represents the world's third most common cancer (搜索) where the medical need for better treatments remains high.
Global Patent Strategy
Based on the positive Intention to Grant notice and a positive International Search Report announced in September 2024, Isofol intends to pursue patent protection in additional key regions including the United States and Japan. This expanded patent strategy supports the company's global commercialization plans for arfolitixorin.
