Juvena Therapeutics Secures $33.5M Series B to Advance AI-Enabled Regenerative Biologics Pipeline
核心洞察
Juvena Therapeutics (搜索) raised $33.5 million in Series B funding led by Bison Ventures (搜索), with participation from Eli Lilly and Company, to advance its regenerative biologics pipeline targeting tissue-degenerative diseases (搜索).
The company is conducting Phase 1 clinical studies for JUV-161, a first-in-class muscle-regenerating biologic that has shown preclinical efficacy in enhancing myogenesis and addressing muscle degeneration in myopathic conditions (搜索).
Juvena recently entered a research collaboration agreement with Eli Lilly valued at over $650 million in potential milestones, validating its AI-enabled platform for translating stem cell biology insights into therapeutics.
Juvena Therapeutics (搜索), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing AI-enabled regenerative biologics, announced the completion of a $33.5 million Series B financing round led by Bison Ventures (搜索). The funding includes participation from Eli Lilly and Company, Jefferson Life Sciences (搜索), and existing institutional investors including Mubadala Capital (搜索) and Manta Ray (搜索).
The financing comes as Juvena advances its lead asset JUV-161 through Phase 1 clinical studies. JUV-161 represents a first-in-class muscle-regenerating biologic that has demonstrated the ability to enhance myogenesis, improve muscle metabolism and strength, and address muscle degeneration in myopathic conditions (搜索) in preclinical models.
Clinical Progress and Strategic Partnership
Juvena has made significant progress in its Phase 1 clinical program for JUV-161, completing dosing in five of six single ascending dose (SAD) cohorts and all multiple ascending dose (MAD) cohorts. The company expects full study completion by the end of January.
The clinical advancement coincides with a major strategic partnership. Juvena recently entered a research and collaboration agreement with Eli Lilly and Company valued at over $650 million in potential milestones, underscoring the pharmaceutical giant's confidence in the company's regenerative medicine platform.
"This financing marks an important inflection point for Juvena and validates the scientific and translational foundation we've built," said Dr. Jeremy O'Connell, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Juvena Therapeutics (搜索). "Additionally, the research and collaboration agreement with Eli Lilly and Company underscore our platform's ability to translate insights from human stem cell biology into therapeutics with the potential to restore tissue function and address serious unmet needs."
AI-Enabled Regenerative Medicine Platform
Juvena's approach combines artificial intelligence with human biology and biologics engineering to develop tissue-restorative therapeutics. The company's platform translates computationally informed biological insights from human stem cell biology into engineered therapeutics designed to restore tissue function.
"Juvena is helping define a new frontier in regenerative medicine by combining advances in AI, human biology, and biologics engineering," said Ben Hemani, Founding Partner of Bison Ventures (搜索). "We believe this approach has the potential to reshape how tissue-degenerative diseases (搜索) are treated, and we're excited to support the company as it moves into this next stage of growth."
Pipeline Expansion and Leadership Transition
The Series B proceeds will fund advancement of Juvena's lead clinical programs, expansion of its tissue-restorative biologics pipeline, and continued development of AI-enabled discovery capabilities. The company plans an expanded clinical development program for neuromuscular disease applications and continues to advance programs targeting both neuromuscular and age-related diseases (搜索).
As part of its growth strategy, Juvena has initiated a search for a Chief Executive Officer. Co-founder Dr. Hanadie Yousef will transition from her current role to serve as a Board Director and Executive Advisor.
"I am incredibly proud of Juvena's evolution from a platform concept into a clinical-stage leader in regenerative medicine," said Dr. Yousef. "With the company poised for its next chapter of scale, I am excited to support the transition to new leadership, while remaining actively engaged in our mission as a Board Director and Executive Advisor."
Strengthened Leadership and Governance
The company has expanded its leadership team and board of directors to support its next growth phase. Ben Hemani and Dr. Laura Lande-Diner, Managing Partner at Jefferson Life Sciences (搜索), have joined the Board of Directors. The clinical leadership team has been reinforced with the addition of Dr. Colin Hislop, a veteran clinical development executive, and Dr. Banmeet Anand, an experienced drug development leader.
The Board of Directors includes Dr. Cristina Ghenoiu, independent directors Stephen Juelsgaard (former Genentech executive) and Steven P. James (former CEO of Pionyr Immunotherapeutics, Labrys Biologics, and KAI Pharmaceuticals), along with co-founders Yousef and O'Connell.
Juvena continues to explore additional partnership opportunities as it advances its pipeline of programs targeting neuromuscular and age-related diseases (搜索), with the goal of delivering disease-modifying treatments for serious unmet medical needs.
