In her statement, Kelley reflected on the difficulty of recognizing her own condition. "Wow…I have taken about 100 deep breaths to write this," she began. "How do I even start? It's been a year since I recognized what everyone around me could see: I was not well, and I needed help."
Despite the turmoil, the former couple appeared to be on better terms earlier this year when they reunited with their three children for a family outing at Universal Studios. Scott later described 2025 as the "hardest year of my life," but said he shared photos from the outing because he felt their family deserved for things not to remain in an "awful dark place."
