KGH Superintendent Dr. I. Vani announced that the hospital is currently the only government cancer centre in the state conducting this clinical trial. "Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and immunotherapy (搜索) has emerged as an important treatment option for certain categories of advanced-stage patients. However, the high cost of treatment has often limited access, particularly in the public healthcare system," she explained.
Trial Design and Patient Eligibility
The clinical trial, conducted by the Department of Medical Oncology, will provide immunotherapy (搜索) in combination with chemotherapy to eligible patients over a one-year period. According to hospital authorities, a single cycle of the immunotherapy drug costs approximately ₹4 lakh in the private sector. Under the trial, patients will receive one dose every three weeks, totaling 17 cycles over the course of a year, entirely free of charge.
