The announcement came during the 11th Allied Health Sciences International Symposium, held from July 3 to 4, 2026, in the Philippines. The event was collaboratively organized by the Allied Health Sciences Consortium, with Centro Escolar University (搜索) serving as the main host and Far Eastern University – Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (搜索) (FEU-NRMF) as co-host.
Symposium Focus on AI in Health Education
Organized under the theme "Initiatives and Innovations in Health Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence," this year's symposium centered on exchanging knowledge and innovations in health sciences education within the context of AI. The event aimed to foster academic collaboration and strengthen networking opportunities among international member institutions.
Associate Professor Amornrat Chumneamtsong, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Administration at AMS, KKU, emphasized the value of participation: "Participating in this international symposium provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices in health sciences education with network institutions worldwide." She noted that insights gained regarding AI applications for enhancing teaching and learning management, competency assessments, and curriculum development are "highly relevant to future healthcare systems."
KKU Presentations Highlight Competency-Based Training and Precision Medicine
During the symposium, KKU representatives delivered lectures on several key topics. Associate Professor Chumneamtsong presented in the Plenary Session on "A Longitudinal Competency-Based Assessment and Certification System for Medical Technology and Physical Therapy Students," highlighting a continuous competency assessment and certification model throughout the curriculum. She also delivered a lecture titled "Building Capacity in Genomics and Precision Medicine through Specialized Training and Curriculum Integration," detailing approaches to capacity building in genomics and precision medicine.
Assistant Professor Wanida Donpunha, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Environment and Staff Development, presented on the "Development of a Prototype Exercise Machine for Lower Limb Strengthening in Children with Cerebral Palsy (搜索)," showcasing an engineered device designed to strengthen lower limb muscles in children affected by the condition.
Assistant Professor Donpunha remarked that the symposium "offered a valuable platform to exchange insights on innovations, research, and health rehabilitation technologies with international experts," highlighting global trends in developing tools to address patient quality of life alongside the application of AI in healthcare.
Hosting the 12th Symposium in 2027
KKU officially received the host flag for the 12th Allied Health Sciences International Symposium during the event. Associate Professor Chumneamtsong stated that being entrusted to host the 2027 symposium "reflects the faculty's readiness and potential to serve as a hub for international academic cooperation." She added that the university will prepare comprehensively across academic affairs, administrative management, delegate facilities, and the creation of high-quality exchange platforms to ensure the upcoming symposium successfully promotes cooperative networks and advances health science innovations.
Expanding Partnerships in China: Precision Medicine and Gene Therapy
In a related development, from June 22 to 26, 2026, a KKU delegation led by Associate Professor Jureerat Daduang, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, visited Nanning and Guilin in the People's Republic of China. The visit aimed to promote the university's Movement Science and Human Performance program and discuss collaborative frameworks for academic advancement and research in Precision Medicine.
The delegation met with administrators from Guangxi College of Sports Education, Guangxi University (Medical School and School of Physical Education), Guangxi Health Science College, and Guilin Medical University. Discussions covered joint curriculum development at undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, student and staff mobility initiatives, and collaborative research projects.
Associate Professor Daduang stated: "This visit marks a significant milestone in expanding our strategic partnerships with leading educational and medical institutions in the People's Republic of China." She emphasized that discussions on "Precision Medicine alongside Cell and Gene Therapy open invaluable opportunities for co-developing medical research and innovation to address future healthcare demands."
Lecturer Weerapong Sujarit, Ph.D., Chair of the Movement Science and Human Performance Programme, noted that the curriculum "stands out due to its integration of movement science, human performance enhancement, and health technology," and that resulting collaborations will help "internationalise our curriculum" and "sharpen our graduates' competitive edge on the global stage."
The delegation also held strategic talks with the Guangxi Xiankangda Group (搜索) to explore commercial and research opportunities in Precision Medicine and Cell and Gene Therapy, disciplines focused on highly personalized diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare optimization using individual genetic, biological, and clinical data.
