Malaysian Reinsurance Berhad (搜索) (Malaysian Re), Malaysia's national reinsurer, and China Reinsurance Life Insurance Company Limited (搜索) (China Re Life) have signed a landmark reinsurance treaty to establish the country's first dedicated framework for Cancer (搜索) Precision Medicine (CPM) treatment coverage. The agreement, signed during a visit by Li Qi, General Manager of China Re Life, to Malaysian Re's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, marks a significant step toward expanding access to advanced cancer therapies that have traditionally been excluded or strictly limited under conventional health insurance plans.
The treaty forms the centerpiece of a broader healthcare ecosystem developed by Malaysian Re in partnership with China Re Life, coordinated by appointed reinsurance broker Beacon Global Risk Solutions Limited (搜索). The multi-layered framework spans reinsurance and retakaful, primary insurance and takaful, direct-to-pharmacy distribution, hospitals, and partnerships with leading pharmaceutical companies.
Addressing a Critical Healthcare Gap
The initiative targets a pressing unmet need in Malaysia, where more than 60% of cancer (搜索) patients are diagnosed at late stages, significantly limiting treatment options and outcomes. Scope of Coverage
The CPM insurance and takaful product supported by this treaty is designed to broaden access to precision cancer (搜索) care by covering selected advanced treatments, including CAR-T cell therapy (搜索), targeted therapies, and precision immunotherapy. The product also includes an overseas treatment benefit, enabling patients to seek care at designated oncology centers in China where medically appropriate.
Drawing on China Re Life's experience in supporting a large-scale CPM model in China, Malaysian Re will provide local insurers and takaful operators with access to specialized reinsurance and retakaful capacity for this growing risk segment. From product design and market engagement to distributor onboarding through a multi-channel distribution model, Malaysian Re has built a go-to-market infrastructure that converts reinsurance and retakaful capacity into accessible, consumer-ready coverage.
China Re Life's Proven Model
China Re Life enters the partnership with an established CPM model that currently covers more than 330 million policyholders annually in China through partnerships with over 180 insurers and 100 pharmaceutical companies.
