Neion Bio Secures $23M Series A to Scale Egg-Based Biologics Manufacturing Platform
核心洞察
Neion Bio (搜索) closed an oversubscribed $23 million Series A financing led by Caffeinated Capital (搜索) to advance its Raptor™ biologics manufacturing platform.
The company's platform uses precision genetic engineering to turn chicken eggs into factories for producing complex, glycosylated therapeutic proteins.
Neion Bio (搜索) has already signed its first commercial co-development and supply agreement with a major pharmaceutical company for up to three monoclonal antibody biosimilars (搜索).
Neion Bio (搜索), a biotechnology company aiming to transform the production of biologic medicines, announced the close of an oversubscribed $23 million Series A financing round on June 11, 2026. The funding will accelerate development of the company's Raptor™ platform, which harnesses precision genetic engineering to turn chicken eggs into highly efficient factories for manufacturing complex therapeutic proteins.
The financing was led by Caffeinated Capital (搜索), an early investor in Neion, with participation from new investors Digitalis Ventures, Ensemble VC, and Trust Ventures, alongside significant follow-on investment from existing backers Haystack and Basis Set Ventures.
"Significant advances in foundational engineering tools in biology are enabling Neion Bio (搜索) to unlock the next bioindustrial revolution," said Dimi Kellari, co-founder and CEO of Neion Bio. "We are grateful to partner with forward-thinking deep technology investors who share our conviction in both the challenges facing biologics manufacturing today and the opportunity to fundamentally reshape it."
A Platform Built on Evolutionary Engineering
At the core of Neion's approach is a simple yet radical premise: the egg represents a biological vessel refined over millions of years of evolution and centuries of selective breeding to produce and stabilize large quantities of protein in a sterile, self-contained environment. The Raptor™ platform leverages this natural productivity, using frontier genetic engineering tools to restrict recombinant protein production to the egg itself.
"Evolution is still our most sophisticated engineering engine, refining biological processes over billions of years for efficiency, resilience, and scale," said Dr. Sam Levin, co-founder and CTO of Neion Bio (搜索). "Neion's platform is built on the belief that the future of biomanufacturing will come not from forcing biology into increasingly complex industrial systems, but from harnessing biological systems already optimized by evolution itself."
The platform is made possible by recent advances in precision genome engineering, the availability of large genomic data sets, and the ability to grow avian primordial germ cells. Neion re-engineers these naturally sterile vesicles to produce virtually any biological therapeutic at what the company describes as an order of magnitude lower cost compared to traditional cell-culture-based manufacturing.
First Commercial Partnership Already Secured
Today's Series A announcement follows Neion Bio (搜索)'s emergence from stealth in March 2026, which was accompanied by the signing of its first commercial co-development and supply agreement with a major global pharmaceutical company. The multi-product biosimilars (搜索) collaboration covers the co-development and supply of up to three monoclonal antibodies (搜索), with the deal structured to include up-front and milestone payments along with participation in commercial profits once products reach the market.
"Biopharma manufacturing has not changed in decades, and has become a major bottleneck in advancing medical breakthroughs, increasing accessibility of existing therapies, and localizing domestic production of critical medicines," said Kellari. "Neion Bio (搜索)'s platform removes the capital intensity and process constraints of traditional biomanufacturing enabling highly scalable and resilient production while materially lowering the cost of development and supply."
Industry veteran Ming Li, who joined Neion as President of Commercial Operations after previously serving as an advisor, emphasized the strategic significance of entering the biosimilar space. "As clinical requirements ease for biosimilars (搜索), we expect a major increase in investment across the biosimilar sector, and our platform offers the kind of structural advantage companies will need to succeed," Li said.
Pipeline Expansion and Technology Development
Neion Bio (搜索) will use the Series A proceeds to expand its existing pipeline across four areas: biosimilars (搜索), innovative medicines, critical reagents, and animal health. The company is also advancing proprietary technologies designed to enable production of biologics at meaningful scale within days, which would allow far more rapid iteration cycles for screening and production of novel molecules.
The platform's capabilities extend to complex, difficult-to-express products that have been challenging to manufacture using traditional approaches, potentially enabling customers to create entirely new markets. The company positions its technology as addressing both commercial and national security priorities, with Varun Gupta, Partner at Caffeinated Capital (搜索), noting that Neion is "redefining biologics manufacturing at a time when securing domestic supply chains and access to critical medicines has become a top national priority."
Founded in 2024 with approximately $11 million in initial financing, Neion Bio (搜索) is led by a multidisciplinary team including co-founders Dimi Kellari and Dr. Sam Levin, along with Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Sven Bocklandt, formerly of Colossal Biosciences, where he directed genetic engineering efforts central to the company's de-extinction work. The company is headquartered at Rockefeller University in New York.
