核心洞察
Novartis and agency partner Fallon Minneapolis won the 2026 Pharma Lions Grand Prix at Cannes for the "Relax Your Tight End" prostate cancer (搜索) awareness campaign that debuted during Super Bowl LX.
The campaign recruited current and former NFL tight ends including Rob Gronkowski and George Kittle to encourage men to get screened, using humor to normalize conversations around prostate cancer (搜索) screening.
Jury president Tracey Brader praised the work as "genuinely funny" and credited its use of celebrities, the Super Bowl platform, and a patient who had been saved.
Novartis has claimed the pharmaceutical industry's highest creative honor at Cannes Lions 2026, with its "Relax Your Tight End" prostate cancer (搜索) screening awareness campaign winning the Pharma Lions Grand Prix on Monday evening. The campaign, created in partnership with agency Fallon Minneapolis, made its debut during Super Bowl LX and represents a bold fusion of entertainment, celebrity influence, and public health messaging.
The minute-long spot recruited current and former NFL tight ends—including Rob Gronkowski, George Kittle, and Delanie Walker—to deliver an intentionally unsubtle message: men should overcome their reluctance and get screened for prostate cancer (搜索). The work leaned into humor around men "clenching" their backsides at the prospect of screening, while making clear that the process can begin with a simple blood test.
In announcing the honor, Cannes Pharma Lions jury president Tracey Brader, chief strategy and innovation officer at Omnicom's Remedy Edge UK, credited Novartis' use of every channel: celebrities, the Super Bowl, and a patient who had been saved. "Pharma is the most difficult of categories because it's so difficult to balance new ideas with the sensitivities around health care," Brader told MM+M, adding that the spot was also "genuinely funny."
Gail Horwood, chief marketing and customer experience officer at Novartis, emphasized the campaign's real-world purpose. "At a time when people have access to more information than ever before, healthcare leaders have a responsibility to make critical health information clear, relevant, and actionable," Horwood said in a statement. "We're honored to receive this Grand Prix for Relax Your Tight End; and hope that this prestigious accolade further spotlights the real-world impact of this work—helping normalize conversations around prostate cancer (搜索) screening and empowering more men to take an important step toward early detection."
The campaign also earned a Silver Lion in the film category for unbranded product or service promotion, underscoring its versatility across creative formats.
Additional Pharma Lions Winners
Beyond the Grand Prix, the Cannes Pharma Lions jury recognized one Gold, two Silver, and three Bronze Lions across a diverse range of pharmaceutical communications.
Gold Lion: Viatris and Ogilvy Shanghai took the top honor for "Viagra Blue Brands," an integrated campaign that leveraged Viagra's instantly recognizable blue identity as a creative language to maintain the erectile dysfunction (搜索) brand's cultural visibility in China. The work navigated a market where direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising is prohibited and conversations about sex remain sensitive. The campaign appeared across two media categories—Integrated and Direct—highlighting the ability of an iconic brand to update its language and broaden its conversation within a highly sensitive category.
Silver Lions: Novartis collected a second Silver for "Relax Your Tight End" in the film category. Additionally, "The Safe Pack," created by VML Madrid for TuPharma 365 (搜索), received a Silver Lion in the brand experience and activation category for disease awareness and understanding. The medication safety project created adaptable sleeves for medication boxes using larger typography, high-contrast colors, and simplified icons, designed to help older adults distinguish between medications that may otherwise look similar and reduce the risk of medication errors.
Bronze Lions: Three campaigns rounded out the winners. Gilead Sciences Canada (搜索)'s "Animal Attraction," created by Toronto agency The Local Collective for HIV (搜索) prevention drug Descovy, earned a Bronze in the use of humor category for branded product or service promotion. The campaign played on terms such as "bear," "otter," and "wolf"—commonly used to describe different body types within LGBTQIA+ culture—transforming them into illustrated animal characters depicting intimacy and connection.
Tata 1mg (搜索)'s "Sawaal Uthao" (which translates to "raise questions"), created by New Delhi-based agency Humour Me, also received a Bronze Lion. The integrated campaign encouraged consumers to question whether their medications were genuine, paired with a QR-code traceability system allowing customers to access information about a medication's source, batch, expiration date, and handling.
Jazz Pharmaceuticals' "See a Seizure," created by Real Chemistry's 21Grams New York, completed the Bronze winners in the creative data category for healthcare professional engagement. The interactive training program uses simulations to help healthcare workers recognize how seizures may appear in real-world settings, developed particularly for professionals working with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, whose seizures can be difficult to identify or may be mistaken for behavioral issues.
Frank Mazzola, managing founder of 21 Grams, highlighted the campaign's clinical impact: "This is an idea that was not designed to win a Lion, but to directly impact lives. When 'See A Seizure' launched, it led to the diagnosis of 6 people, in one week; for conditions that often take up to 15 years."
A Global Creative Landscape
The 2026 Pharma Lions shortlist featured 23 entries spanning markets including Mainland China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Taiwan, Switzerland, India, and the Netherlands. The United States represented a significant share of shortlisted work, with agencies including Area 23, Grey Health, Fallon, FCB Health New York, Merkley + Partners, Neon, 21Grams, and Genentech all contributing.
The shortlist underscored a key trend: disease education and medical-condition awareness are becoming major creative territories. Unbranded campaigns from AstraZeneca ("Get Body Checked Against Cancer"), Bayer Women's Health ("Anything But Normal"), Incyte Corporation ("The HS Truths Anthem"), GSK ("1 for3"), and MSD ("Chamuyo (Dinosaur)") demonstrated how pharmaceutical communication is increasingly prioritizing understanding, prevention, diagnosis, and visibility without relying solely on direct product promotion.
The repeated presence of campaigns such as "Relax Your Tight End," "Viagra Blue Brands," and "The Safe Pack" across different competition sections confirmed the versatility of the year's strongest pharmaceutical ideas, competing not only through creativity but through their ability to work across Integrated, Direct, Film, Brand Experience & Activation, Use of Humour, and Patient Engagement categories.
