Ohio State University has launched Buckeye BioLaunch, a new AI-enabled initiative to accelerate therapeutic discovery, development, and commercialization across the full drug development continuum.

The Ohio State University has announced the creation of Buckeye BioLaunch, a new university-wide initiative designed to harness artificial intelligence for accelerating therapeutic discovery, development, and commercialization. The program brings together the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center (搜索), the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (搜索) (OSUCCC – James), and the Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy in a coordinated effort to move research discoveries from the laboratory toward real-world clinical impact.
The initiative will be led by Deanna Kroetz, dean and professor in the College of Pharmacy, and Xiaolin Cheng, professor of medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy, also from the College of Pharmacy.
"Ohio State intends to be a national force in therapeutic innovation, where producing new medicines every five to 10 years becomes an expected outcome," Kroetz said. "To realize that vision, we are committing to empowering investigators, aligning incentives and building the infrastructure needed to move discoveries toward real-world impact through coordinated leadership and strategic investment."

Buckeye BioLaunch will be based in Ohio State's Innovation District and will support projects spanning the full continuum of drug development, from genomics and target identification through molecule discovery and ultimately to medicine. The initiative expects to support between 10 and 20 AI-driven screening projects annually, building a robust pipeline of therapeutics advancing toward commercialization.
The program draws on substantial data resources. The Wexner Medical Center's investment in Ohio State Genomic Health (OSGH) provides rich clinical and genomic datasets that will underpin the AI-driven discovery efforts.
