In his new position, Dr. Trein will provide strategic scientific and clinical leadership across Ora's posterior segment programs, with responsibilities spanning clinical trial design, endpoint selection, patient identification, safety oversight, and study execution. Bridging Clinical Practice and Drug Development
A distinguishing feature of the appointment is that Dr. Trein continues to treat retinal patients while working directly on the operational requirements of ophthalmic drug development. He currently practices at Aran Eye Associates in South Florida, where he treats patients with retinal and vitreous diseases. This combination of clinical practice and development experience is particularly relevant in retinal trials, where patient selection, imaging protocols, functional endpoints, and safety monitoring can affect both study design and execution.
Dr. Trein has extensive experience across a broad range of retinal conditions, including geographic atrophy (搜索), age-related macular degeneration (搜索), diabetic retinopathy (搜索), diabetic macular edema (搜索), retinal vascular disorders (搜索), and inherited retinal diseases (搜索). Continuity from Prior Leadership Roles
Before moving into the Therapeutic Lead position, Dr. Trein served as Ora's Medical Monitor and Head of Latin America Operations. In those roles, he supported global ophthalmic development programs and advised on protocol development, patient eligibility criteria, imaging and functional endpoints, safety reviews, and operational strategy across multiple retinal indications. That experience provides continuity as he assumes broader responsibility for posterior segment programs.
Drug development in retinal disease requires coordination among sponsors, investigators, imaging systems, clinical sites, and patients, with trial protocols often dependent on precisely defined disease characteristics and measurable changes in visual or anatomical outcomes. Dr. Trein's role will focus on helping sponsors structure those components early in development and carry them through clinical execution, aligning scientific requirements with practical trial operations, including identifying appropriate patients and ensuring that endpoints can be implemented consistently across participating sites.

Clinical and Academic Background
Before joining Ora, Dr. Trein owned and operated a specialized ophthalmology practice in Brazil for more than 16 years, performing retinal and cataract surgery and caring for patients with complex ophthalmic conditions. He has also been actively involved in physician education, surgical training, and ophthalmic research throughout his career.
Dr. Trein earned his medical degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), completed his ophthalmology residency and retina fellowship at the University of São Paulo, and later earned a Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences focused on Clinical and Industrial Drug Development from the University of Cincinnati. Fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, he brings a global perspective and patient-centered approach to advancing retinal therapies.
