Organogenesis Initiates Rolling BLA Submission for ReNu Knee Osteoarthritis Treatment Following FDA Approval
核心洞察
Organogenesis Holdings Inc. received FDA confirmation to initiate a rolling Biologics License Application (BLA) for ReNu (搜索), a cryopreserved amniotic suspension allograft for knee osteoarthritis (搜索) treatment.
The FDA determined that ReNu (搜索)'s clinical development program, including two large Phase 3 randomized controlled trials and over 1,300 patients studied, is appropriate for BLA submission expected by end of 2025.
ReNu (搜索) targets knee osteoarthritis (搜索), a degenerative joint disease affecting 31.1 million Americans and projected to grow to 34.4 million by 2027.
Organogenesis Holdings Inc. announced the successful completion of a planned Type-B meeting with the Food and Drug Administration (搜索) (FDA) that resulted in confirmation to initiate a rolling Biologics License Application (BLA) for ReNu (搜索), a regenerative medicine treatment for knee osteoarthritis (搜索). The submission is planned before the end of December 2025.
"We are excited about the outcome of our FDA meeting and reaching this important milestone in the ReNu (搜索) program," said Patrick Bilbo, Chief Operating Officer of Organogenesis. "We are pleased the ReNu clinical development program consisting of two large Phase 3 randomized controlled trials (RCT), a separate 200-patient RCT, extensive commercial history and Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT)-designation is appropriate for BLA submission."
Clinical Development and Regulatory Status
ReNu (搜索) has undergone extensive clinical evaluation through three large randomized controlled trials involving more than 1,300 patients. The treatment received FDA Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) designation for knee osteoarthritis (搜索) in 2021, which provides enhanced FDA communication and potentially expedited review processes for promising regenerative medicine therapies.
The therapy was previously marketed under Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act and was commercially available for approximately six years before the current regulatory pathway transition.
Target Disease and Market Impact
Knee osteoarthritis (搜索) represents a significant medical burden, affecting an estimated 31.1 million Americans with projections indicating growth to 34.4 million Americans by 2027. The degenerative joint disease ranks among the most common causes of disability and poor quality of life, characterized by pain and functionality deficits. For patients with end-stage disease, total knee replacement typically becomes necessary when all other treatment options are exhausted.
ReNu Treatment Mechanism
ReNu (搜索) is a cryopreserved, amniotic suspension allograft specifically developed for managing symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (搜索). The treatment consists of amniotic fluid cells and micronized amniotic membrane, containing cellular, growth factor, and extracellular matrix components that may contribute to its therapeutic effects.
Company Profile
Organogenesis Holdings Inc. operates as a leading regenerative medicine company focused on developing, manufacturing, and commercializing solutions for advanced wound care and surgical and sports medicine markets. The company maintains a comprehensive portfolio of innovative regenerative products designed to address patient needs across the continuum of care.
Bilbo emphasized the potential clinical impact, stating, "If approved, we believe that ReNu (搜索) will address a significant medical need for a large and growing patient population."
