The city is launching a comprehensive Mental Health Campaign, a collaborative effort between public schools, community organizations, and the Chelsea Children’s Cabinet. This initiative aims to foster youth wellbeing in the aftermath of the pandemic, which brought significant illness, death, and financial hardship to the community, along with prolonged school closures.
The Chelsea Children’s Cabinet, a core component of this initiative, comprises 30 local community leaders representing the school district, social service and health agencies, government entities (including the city manager and housing authority), and non-profit organizations. This collaborative approach seeks to create a unified and comprehensive support system for the city's young people.
A mixed-methods study is underway to evaluate the effectiveness of the Mental Health (搜索) Campaign. The research team, a partner in this work since its inception, will focus on several key research questions:
- How do stakeholders across various roles and institutions understand youth wellbeing within the Chelsea community?
- How can a Mental Health Campaign be co-designed to effectively address youth wellbeing in this specific context?
- What are the outcomes of engaging in a participatory design and research (PDR) process for those involved, and how does it influence their perspectives on youth wellbeing in Chelsea?
This research aims to provide valuable insights into the development and implementation of community-based mental health (搜索) initiatives, offering a potential model for other cities facing similar challenges.
