The randomized, controlled trial involving 67 healthy volunteers between ages 50 and 70 was published in Nutrients, marking one of the most extensive human studies to date on tocotrienols' anti-aging effects.
Clinical Trial Results Show Multi-Target Benefits
Participants who consumed the tocotrienol-enriched beverage experienced significant improvements in World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) psychological assessments, reflecting enhanced mood and emotional resilience compared to the placebo group. The supplemented group also demonstrated substantial increases in levels of key antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (搜索), which protect cells against oxidative stress and strengthen the body's overall antioxidant defense system.
One of the most notable findings was the boost in telomerase (搜索) activity among participants taking TocoGaia (搜索). This enzyme plays a critical role in maintaining telomere length in cells, which serves as a marker of biological age and genomic stability. The supplement also appeared to reduce levels of 8-OHdG, a biomarker of oxidative DNA damage, suggesting protective effects on cellular integrity.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects Observed
The study revealed significant reductions in inflammatory markers among the supplemented group, including decreases in TNF-alpha (搜索) and the cytokines IL-6 and TGF-beta (搜索). New Clinical Trial Approved for Advanced Formula
Building on these promising results, PhytoGaia (搜索) announced approval for a new six-month clinical trial examining STGaia (搜索), a patent-pending complex combining plant squalene with tocotrienols and tocopherol extracted from palm fruits. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, titled "Plant Squalene and Tocotrienols Complex in Aging: Exploring Their Role in Telomere Preservation and Cellular Longevity," will focus on telomere preservation and cellular longevity as primary endpoints.
The upcoming trial, conducted in partnership with Monash University Malaysia (搜索), will evaluate additional biomarkers including NAD+/NADH ratio, ATP levels, antioxidant enzyme activity, inflammation markers, and expression of specific genes. Recruitment for participants aged 50-75 is expected to begin soon.
