Piramal Pharma Solutions Partners with Botanix to Secure Supply Chain for FDA-Approved Hyperhidrosis Treatment Sofdra
核心洞察
Piramal Pharma Solutions has entered a manufacturing partnership with Botanix Pharmaceuticals to support development and commercial supply of Sofdra, the first and only FDA-approved new chemical entity for primary axillary hyperhidrosis (搜索).
The collaboration will utilize PPS's North American facilities in Riverview, Michigan and potentially Aurora, Canada to provide dual-source API manufacturing capabilities for enhanced supply chain security.
The twin-site strategy aims to derisk Sofdra's supply chain while providing Botanix with significant cost reductions and ensuring consistent patient access to this breakthrough therapy.
Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), a leading global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), has announced a strategic manufacturing and supply arrangement with Botanix SB Inc. (搜索), a subsidiary of Botanix Pharmaceuticals Limited, to support the production of Sofdra®, the first and only FDA-approved new chemical entity for treating primary axillary hyperhidrosis (搜索).
Manufacturing Strategy and Facility Deployment
Under the partnership agreement, PPS will initiate development and validation services for Sofpironium Bromide, the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in Sofdra, at its Riverview, Michigan facility. Following successful regulatory approval at Riverview, the companies will consider validating the process at PPS's Aurora, Canada facility, creating a potential twin-site manufacturing strategy.
This dual-facility approach would provide Botanix with the option to use PPS as a dual-source commercial API supplier, significantly enhancing long-term supply chain flexibility and security. The Riverview and Aurora facilities offer decades of combined experience in drug substance development and manufacturing, spanning research and development through commercialization.
Supply Chain Risk Mitigation
The twin-site capabilities are designed to offer partners redundancy, supply chain continuity, and scheduling flexibility. If geopolitical issues arise, PPS can seamlessly shift production between facilities, ensuring ongoing supply for Botanix and its patients. This proactive approach enables partners to remain agile and resilient amid global uncertainty, with robust coverage across the US and internationally.
Recent investments have equipped both facilities with advanced equipment and unified systems required to execute the Sofdra manufacturing program, reinforcing their geographic proximity and integration expertise while enhancing cost-efficient solutions.
Financial and Operational Benefits
The partnership is expected to provide Botanix with significant financial advantages, including a substantial reduction in cost of goods sold by derisking the Sofdra supply chain. These twin-site capabilities enable better balance between quality and time considerations for manufacturing operations.
"This business partnership demonstrates our ability to deliver tailored, resilient solutions for organizations like Botanix," said Peter DeYoung, CEO of Piramal Global Pharma. "Our North American drug substance facilities are equipped with the expertise, advanced technology, and cutting-edge capabilities required to help derisk the Sofdra supply chain and ensure this breakthrough therapy reaches patients in need with consistency and efficiency."
Addressing Unmet Medical Need
Sofdra represents a significant advancement for patients with primary axillary hyperhidrosis (搜索), a socially challenging medical condition that previously lacked effective treatment options. As the first and only new chemical entity approved by the FDA for this indication, Sofdra presents a novel, safe, and effective solution for affected patients.
The phased manufacturing approach will enable PPS to support future supply needs for Sofpironium Bromide while offering the potential for dual-site production if additional capacity is required. By proactively supporting supply chain continuity, PPS aims to help improve the quality of life for patients living with primary axillary hyperhidrosis (搜索).
