The initiative, announced via an official government statement, seeks to motivate young people to reject substance abuse (搜索) and emerge as agents of positive social transformation in their communities. "The initiative aims to inspire youth to stay away from substance abuse and encourage them to become ambassadors of positive social change in their communities," the statement said.
A 100-Week Public Participation Drive
The launch marks the beginning of a sustained nationwide public participation effort that will run for 100 weeks, with awareness and outreach activities scheduled every Sunday across the country to strengthen the movement against drug abuse. The campaign adopts a Jan Bhagidari model — a participatory governance approach — to foster community ownership of the anti-drug movement.
As part of the campaign, a diverse array of activities will be organized to educate people about the harmful effects of substance abuse (搜索) and promote healthy living. These include sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, awareness drives, nukkad nataks (street plays), discussion forums, art competitions, and community engagement activities.
Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration
According to the government, the initiative seeks to deepen community participation by bringing together educational institutions, youth organisations, civil society groups, industry bodies, and spiritual organisations on a common platform to build a collective campaign against drug addiction.
The inaugural programme will witness virtual participation from youth at more than 10,000 locations across the country. MY Bharat volunteers, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, non-governmental organisations, youth wings of industry associations, and over 125 partner spiritual organisations are expected to take part.
Broader Strategy Against Substance Abuse
The campaign is part of the Centre's broader strategy to address substance abuse (搜索) through sustained public engagement and youth-led initiatives. By encouraging citizens, particularly young people, to contribute towards building a healthier and drug-free India, the government aims to create a grassroots movement that extends beyond policy measures into everyday community life.
