Portal Innovations (搜索) has officially opened the New Jersey Innovation Hub (NJIH) inside the HELIX district in New Brunswick, launching with 16 founding member companies — the largest pre-launch cohort in Portal's national network.
The nearly 30,000-square-foot facility provides wet and dry lab space, offices, and over $2 million in lab equipment, supported by a broad public-private partnership including Rutgers University, Johnson & Johnson, RWJBarnabas Health, and the NJEDA.
Founding member companies span diverse fields including T cell therapies for autoimmune diseases, AI-driven medication management, precision oncology, rare ocular disease treatments, and HPV (搜索)-targeted engineered T cell therapy.

The milestone marks a significant expansion of life sciences infrastructure in a state long recognized as a pharmaceutical powerhouse.
Occupying nearly 30,000 square feet within HELIX's first completed building, H-1, the hub combines state-of-the-art wet and dry lab space with offices, conference rooms, shared collaboration areas, and more than $2 million in modern lab equipment. The design aims to give early-stage biotech, healthcare, life sciences, and technology companies a home to grow without the upfront cost of building out their own laboratories.

A Broad Public-Private Partnership
The hub is the product of a broad collaboration spanning the State of New Jersey, Rutgers University, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), RWJBarnabas Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, Johnson & Johnson, the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO), BioNJ, and the wider HELIX ecosystem. Sangeetha Ramsagar serves as Executive Director, overseeing day-to-day strategy, operations, and ecosystem-building for the site.

Many of the founding member companies trace their origins to research conducted at New Jersey's leading research universities, including Rutgers University, Princeton University, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The hub has also attracted companies from outside the region, with PharmaMedic and Materium Technologies responding to Middlesex County's international marketing program.
The Founding Member Companies
The 16 founding members represent a diverse cross-section of therapeutic areas and technological approaches:
TangGene (搜索) is developing tissue-specific CD8 regulatory T cell therapies aimed at autoimmune diseases. Built around a proprietary nanoparticle platform, the company's pipeline targets disease-modifying treatments for conditions such as multiple sclerosis (搜索) and rheumatoid arthritis (搜索), areas where existing therapies often manage symptoms rather than alter the underlying course of disease.
Guidant Therapeutics (搜索) is working on next-generation immune therapies for cancer, focused on improving the precision of these treatments while reducing the systemic toxicity that can accompany many existing immuno-oncology therapies.
Scarlet TCR (搜索) is advancing a genetically engineered T cell therapy designed to force stable expression of a receptor that targets human papillomavirus (HPV (搜索)), an approach aimed at treating HPV-driven disease more directly than existing options.
Larada Therapeutics (搜索) is developing novel treatments for rare ocular diseases that currently have no approved therapies. "As a growing biotechnology company, being part of an ecosystem that combines laboratory infrastructure with industry relationships and collaboration opportunities is incredibly valuable," said Scott Kachlany, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of Larada Therapeutics.
Favorite Pharma (搜索) is focused on advancing precision medicine in oncology, with particular attention to pancreatic and colorectal cancers — two disease areas where treatment options remain limited and outcomes have historically lagged behind other cancer types.
DrRx.ai has built an AI-powered platform that gives health systems real-time, FHIR-based visibility into patients' medications as they move across different points of care, designed to help reduce avoidable hospital readmissions.
Thrive Genetics applies genomics and technology to improve addiction care, using earlier risk detection to help clinicians build more personalized treatment strategies.
Additional founding members include PumpKin Baby (breastmilk preservation), PharmaMedic (regulatory and product development consulting), Sampled (biological sample management), Ubuntu Research (clinical strategy and trial design), PFA Solve (PFAS detection and destruction), Materium Technologies (sustainable nanocomposite films), LeagueMed (digital healthcare investment platform), and Phase 1 Solutions (early-phase drug development support).
Strengthening New Jersey's Innovation Ecosystem
NJIH members gain access to Portal Innovations (搜索)' national network of founders, pharmaceutical company partners, and some of the nation's leading research institutions, along with mentorship and founder-focused programming designed to help science-driven startups raise capital and scale.

With operations now underway and additional companies expected to join in the coming months, NJIH further strengthens New Brunswick's position as a leading destination for scientific innovation, company creation, and entrepreneurial growth. The HELIX district itself spans 1.6 million square feet and will house anchor tenants including Rutgers' Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the future home of Nokia Bell Labs.
