The campaign launch, spanning July 13 through July 17, 2026, included events in Alaska, Arizona, California, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Virginia.
Scope of the Health Care Crisis
According to Protect Our Care (搜索), the campaign responds to more than $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and the elimination of Affordable Care Act tax credits, measures the organization states were enacted to finance tax breaks for billionaires and large corporations. Since these cuts took effect, more than eight million people have lost health coverage they relied on for physician visits and medical care, while costs have risen sharply for millions more.
The organization further reports that over 1,000 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other health care providers are closing, cutting essential services, or facing the risk of closure or cuts.
Lawmakers and Advocates Mobilize
U.S. Representative Don Beyer (D-VA-08) headlined the Virginia event in Arlington alongside State Senator Barbara Favola, Chair of the Virginia Senate Education and Health Committee, and Matt de Ferranti, Chair of the Arlington County Board of Supervisors. The SEIU Virginia State Council also participated.
In Georgia, U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop (D-GA-02) joined Tonza Thomas, Executive Director of the Georgia NAACP, and Dr. Karen Kinsell for a virtual event. U.S. Representative Judy Chu (D-CA-28) and U.S. Representative Dave Min (D-CA-47) led the California launch, while U.S. Representative Shontel Brown (D-OH-11) participated in the Ohio event earlier in the week.
Additional events featured Arizona Representative Aaron Márquez, Alaska State Senator Forest Dunbar, New Hampshire State Representative Jessica LaMontagne, and leaders from organizations including the Alaska AFL-CIO, Michigan Nurses Association, Iowa Farmers Union, and the Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans.
Campaign Demands
The "Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now" campaign is calling on lawmakers to pursue solutions that lower health care costs, reduce barriers to care, and address what organizers characterize as a broken health care system.
