Breakthrough in Transcription Factor Targeting
Transcription factors serve as central regulators of gene expression and play key roles in cancer development and progression. Despite their clinical relevance, these proteins have remained largely inaccessible to drug development due to technical limitations of conventional assay techniques, which cannot adequately identify direct transcriptional responses caused by drug treatments at early time-points within one hour after dosing.
QUANTRO's proprietary time-resolved transcriptomics platform addresses these limitations by enabling precise characterization of transcriptional responses over time, thereby revealing actionable disease-driving mechanisms. The technology represents a significant advancement over traditional RT-qPCR based technologies like DRUG-seq, which are limited to measuring RNA abundance without capturing information on transcriptional activity and dynamics.

Under the extended agreement, QUANTRO is eligible to receive success-based R&D, regulatory and commercial milestone payments up to an estimated total value of around €500 million. The company has already received initial payments, though specific collaboration terms remain undisclosed. QUANTRO retains full ownership of its technology platform and internal drug discovery programs targeting additional transcription factors beyond the scope of the collaboration.

QUANTRO has achieved several key technical milestones, including technical proof-of-concept, cross-validation of its high-throughput screening technology, and identification of functionally validated hits against previously undruggable transcription factors. The company's platform uniquely quantifies changes in gene expression over time with unprecedented precision and sensitivity.
The Vienna-based company, founded in 2019 as a spin-out from research institutes IMBA (搜索) and IMP (搜索), has been supported by Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund and Evotec as seed investors since 2020.
