Somatic mutations accumulate over a lifetime, creating extensive genetic diversity across cells within an individual and resulting in trillions of different genomes within a single person.
The platform uses high-sensitivity sequencing to identify mutations that either cause or protect against disease, generating genetically validated insights for drug development. By detecting recurrent mutations directly within the cells driving disease, the approach is designed to improve confidence that identified targets are causally linked to disease biology.
A key advantage of Quotient's platform is its efficiency in patient recruitment. Because somatic mutations are widespread, often numbering in the hundreds or thousands per cell, the company can identify meaningful disease signals from relatively small patient cohorts, typically between 10 and 30 individuals, compared with the much larger populations required for traditional genetic studies.
