Belgian clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company Rejuvenate Biomed (搜索) announced the completion of patient recruitment for its pivotal Phase 2 trial of RJx-01, a first-in-class therapeutic targeting muscle weakness (搜索) and sarcopenia (搜索) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (搜索) (COPD (搜索)). The MINT-COPD trial represents a critical milestone in addressing a condition for which no approved drug treatments currently exist, with topline data expected by the end of 2026.
Addressing a Critical Unmet Medical Need
Sarcopenia (搜索) affects more than 50 million people globally and is characterized by progressive loss of physical performance and skeletal muscle strength. In COPD (搜索) patients, the prevalence ranges from 14% to as high as 67%, depending on disease severity and other factors. The condition creates a debilitating cycle where underlying systemic inflammation (搜索) and oxidative stress from COPD contribute to muscle breakdown, reducing physical capacity and discouraging exercise that could help maintain muscle mass.

The sarcopenia (搜索) treatment market, valued at over $3 billion, currently relies entirely on non-pharmacological interventions like resistance training and nutritional supplements, representing one of the largest unmet needs in geriatric and chronic disease medicine.
Novel Multi-Target Therapeutic Approach
RJx-01 distinguishes itself through a sophisticated, multi-pathway approach that simultaneously addresses several core drivers of muscle decline. Unlike previous unsuccessful attempts that focused on single targets, the drug targets mitochondrial dysfunction (搜索), chronic inflammation (搜索), fibrosis (搜索), and impaired neuromuscular signaling (搜索).
This strategy is supported by promising Phase 1b data in healthy older men with immobilization-induced muscle weakness (搜索)—a model that mimics acute muscle loss during hospitalization.
