The research team, led by Dr. Indraneel Mittra, conducted a controlled study involving 20 glioblastoma (搜索) patients scheduled for brain surgery. Ten patients received tablets containing resveratrol and copper four times daily for approximately 12 days before their operation, while the remaining 10 served as untreated controls. "This finding was particularly significant because cell-free chromatin particles are key drivers of tumor aggressiveness."
Mechanism of Action
The researchers paired resveratrol and copper based on their synergistic mechanism. Copper enables resveratrol to generate reactive molecules that break down DNA debris known to inflame cancer cells. Resveratrol, a polyphenol found in red grapes and berries, has demonstrated antioxidant effects in previous research but reacted differently when combined with copper, helping to dissolve harmful DNA fragments.
"These results suggest that a simple, inexpensive and non-toxic nutraceutical tablet potentially has the power to heal glioblastoma (搜索)," Mittra stated.

The findings challenge conventional cancer treatment approaches that focus on destroying malignant cells. "We have been trying to kill cancer cells for 2,500 years, since the time of the ancient Greeks, without success," Mittra explained. Mittra expressed optimism about the potential implications: "I believe we may be on the brink of transforming the way cancer is treated."
Study Limitations and Cautionary Notes
The researchers acknowledged several important limitations. The study involved only 20 patients and examined short-term changes in tumor tissue over just 12 days of treatment. The tumors' appearance did not change, and the supplements' interaction with standard treatments remains unclear. Most critically, it remains uncertain whether these biological changes translate to improved patient outcomes.
"The public should understand that ours is only a first step, and our findings are based on a relatively small number of patients, which needs replication in larger patient cohorts," Mittra cautioned. "They should not start self-medicating simply because these items are readily available. There may be minimal benefit unless the controlled formulation we designed for our study is used."
Regulatory and Safety Considerations
