RION Spins Out INTENT Biologics to Advance Exosome-Based Therapies for Inflammation and Immunology
核心洞察
RION (搜索) has launched INTENT Biologics (搜索) as an independent biotechnology company focused exclusively on developing first-in-class exosome therapies for inflammation (搜索) and immunology indications.
The new company receives exclusive worldwide rights to RION (搜索)'s Purified Exosome Product (搜索) (PEP) biologic platform and will advance it into Phase 3 clinical development for tissue regeneration and dermatologic conditions (搜索).
Former Pfizer executive Suneet Varma has been appointed CEO, bringing over 30 years of biopharma leadership to capitalize on what the company describes as a $30 billion market opportunity.
RION (搜索), a clinical-stage regenerative medicine company, has formed INTENT Biologics (搜索) as an independent biotechnology company dedicated to developing first-in-class exosome-based therapeutics for inflammation (搜索) and immunology (I&I) indications. The spinout company launches with exclusive, perpetual worldwide rights to RION's Purified Exosome Product (搜索) (PEP) biologic platform in I&I and plans to advance PEP Biologic (搜索) into Phase 3 clinical development for advanced tissue regeneration and immune-mediated dermatologic indications.
Leadership and Strategic Vision
Suneet Varma has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of INTENT Biologics (搜索), bringing over 30 years of global biopharma leadership experience. His background includes serving as Global President of Pfizer Oncology and Rare Diseases and recent board service at Cerevel Therapeutics.
"INTENT Biologics (搜索) is uniquely positioned to redefine therapeutic approaches in Inflammation (搜索) & Immunology with a novel mechanism of action that harnesses regenerative exosomes to restore immune balance and reduce inflammation which, in turn, promotes optimal healing across many diseases and patient subpopulations," said Varma. "With a $30B+ market opportunity and a highly de-risked clinical path, we are poised to rapidly advance PEP Biologic (搜索) into late-stage pivotal trials."
Novel Exosome Platform Technology
INTENT Biologics (搜索) leverages RION (搜索)'s proprietary, industry-leading platelet-derived exosome biomanufacturing platform to produce PEP Biologic (搜索) at clinical and commercial scale. The therapeutic is packaged as a shelf-stable lyophilized powder, with each dose containing regenerative exosomes designed to deliver polyvalent biologic signals that reduce inflammation (搜索), regulate immune responses, and promote tissue regeneration.
PEP Biologic (搜索) was originally discovered through the Mayo Clinic Van Cleve Cardiac Regenerative Medicine Program and represents a first-in-class exosome therapeutic. The treatment employs a novel mechanism of action that emphasizes modulation of T-cells (搜索) and polarization of resident embryonic macrophages (搜索) to promote tissue regeneration.
Clinical Development Strategy
The company is positioning PEP Biologic (搜索) for late-stage clinical trials targeting advanced tissue regeneration and immune-mediated dermatologic indications where current treatments fail to address the underlying biology. INTENT Biologics (搜索) is built on more than two decades of research at the Mayo Clinic and focuses on what it describes as "revolutionizing and replacing" standards of care in inflammation (搜索) and immunology.
"Creation of INTENT Biologics (搜索) marks a pivotal milestone in our mission to revolutionize standards of care through regenerative exosome science," said Atta Behfar, M.D., Ph.D., Co-Founder of RION (搜索). "By creating a company with dedicated focus on deploying our exosome platform in I&I, we can accelerate the clinical and commercial path for PEP Biologic (搜索) and unlock its potential across multiple high impact indications."
Broader Pipeline Context
While INTENT Biologics (搜索) focuses exclusively on inflammation (搜索) and immunology applications, parent company RION (搜索) continues advancing a broader pipeline with clinical and preclinical programs in diabetic foot ulcers (搜索), knee osteoarthritis (搜索), musculoskeletal injury, dermatologic conditions (搜索), pulmonary disease, cardiovascular health, and women's health. RION positions itself as the global leader in isolating and mass-producing platelet-derived regenerative exosomes into therapeutic platforms.
