The Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit (RGMBS 2026) will convene in the Saudi capital from 14 to 16 September 2026, bringing together scientists, investors, policymakers, and health innovators across six thematic tracks: artificial intelligence in biotechnology, multi-omics and localization, biotech investment, immunology, bioengineering and synthetic biology, and biotech workforce development.
Now in its fourth edition, the Summit is expected to welcome more than 15,000 visitors, over 100 local and international speakers, 200 biotechnology and healthcare brands, and over 80 exhibiting entities from government and industry. Delegations from more than 70 countries are expected to attend, with over 65 agreements and memoranda of understanding targeted across the three days.
Building the Foundations of Biotechnology Excellence
The scientific program follows the full biomedical innovation pathway, from population-scale genomics and AI-enabled drug discovery through to domestic biomanufacturing, regulatory science, commercialization, and investment. This reflects Saudi Arabia's approach to building a biotechnology ecosystem in which capability at one stage of the pipeline—whether discovery research, cGMP manufacturing, or regulatory infrastructure—depends on progress at every other stage.
The program sits at the heart of the Kingdom's National Biotechnology Strategy, which targets $34.6 billion in non-oil GDP from biotechnology by 2040. The strategy is spearheaded by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud under Saudi Vision 2030.
"This year, we take a strategic step forward with our theme: 'Building the Foundations of Biotechnology Excellence.' If the previous summit focused on global reach, this year emphasizes structural depth. Sustainable excellence cannot be achieved through aspiration alone; it must be supported by strong and deliberate foundations," organizers stated. "This year we celebrate exemplary global partnerships, including with Harvard University in translational oncology, AstraZeneca in gene therapy, and Peking University (搜索) in drug discovery."
Organizers further emphasized that these foundations begin with excellence in enabling scientific infrastructure: advanced laboratories, integrated research centers, clinical trial networks, biomanufacturing capabilities, and digital platforms that accelerate discovery and translate research into practical solutions. Investing in national talent, empowering researchers and innovators, and cultivating leadership across academia, industry, and regulation are equally essential to building a resilient biotechnology ecosystem.
Institutional Governance and International Cooperation
According to official summit documentation, RGMBS 2026 is organized and supervised by the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (搜索) (MNGHA), with King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) acting as co-host institution, and the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC) serving as host and principal research partner. The Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia (搜索) (MISA) joins the initiative as Strategic Partner.
The summit serves as an international platform designed to integrate biomedical research, industrial scale-up, healthcare innovation, capital allocation, and multilateral cooperation aligned with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
The International Pavilion
The international program features a dedicated International Pavilion created to connect national innovation ecosystems with Saudi government bodies, clinical networks, academic institutes, and sovereign investment entities. Spain is included among the six selected national ecosystems, alongside Germany, South Korea, China, the United States, and Japan.
Selected national delegations are granted approximately 56 m² of complimentary exhibition space—valued at an estimated $44,600—including structural design, build-out, and turnkey modular fit-out, accommodating up to 12 companies, startups, or research institutions. The entitlement package includes delegate accreditations, five official invitations to the Gala Dinner, expedited visa processing, and official institutional support letters coordinated with Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.
Within this bilateral framework, the Saudi Business Council (SBC), an independent non-profit organization registered in Spain, facilitates institutional coordination and the participation of the Spanish innovative ecosystem in the RGMBS 2026 International Pavilion.
The call is open to biotechnology firms, MedTech enterprises, digital health innovators, biopharma laboratories, universities, and public research bodies operating under frameworks supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities with commercialization or co-development capacity. The operational framework focuses on structured B2B and B2G matchmaking to establish pilot clinical programs, joint translational research, technology transfer, intellectual property licensing, in-kingdom localization, and strategic joint ventures.
Participation operates through a direct institutional framework linked directly to RGMBS 2026, without requiring external commercial brokers, third-party agencies, or paid intermediaries. Spain's national presence represents a prime opportunity to showcase capabilities in clinical innovation, advanced medical diagnostics, and biomanufacturing, integrating Spanish industry into the expanding Middle Eastern healthcare market in alignment with European Union innovation initiatives.
