Targeting Treatment Resistance
Zhang's research focuses on overcoming a critical challenge in breast cancer (搜索) treatment: drug resistance. According to the American Cancer Society's 2025 findings, one in eight American women will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, yet standard treatments aren't always effective. The estrogen receptor (搜索) is present in 70%-75% of human breast cancers, making tamoxifen a cornerstone therapy that prevents estrogen from fueling cancer growth.
However, tamoxifen quickly loses its efficacy as cancer cells develop resistance.
