The Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Research (ZKI-PH) at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has announced the 3rd Symposium "Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Research," scheduled for September 9–10, 2026, at the Conference Centre of the German Federal Ministries in Berlin, Germany. The event will convene approximately 200 participants, including public health researchers, epidemiologists, data scientists, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and representatives from national and international public health organizations.
The symposium aims to foster interdisciplinary exchange and strengthen collaboration between academia, public health institutions, government agencies, and technology experts. It is financially supported as part of the AI-DAVis project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) (搜索) under grant No. 2523DAT400.
Symposium Programme and Key Topics
The two-day programme will address current developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning across five thematic areas. The first, AI-Supported Decision-Making in Public Health focusing on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Prevention, will explore how AI tools can enhance population-level health strategies for chronic conditions. The second track, AI-Supported Decision-Making in Public Health addressing Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), will examine machine learning applications for disease surveillance and resistance monitoring.
A dedicated session on AI/ML for Pandemic Preparedness will highlight how computational approaches can strengthen early warning systems and outbreak response capabilities. The symposium will also feature a track on Regulatory Framework and Ethics for AI/ML in Public Health, addressing the governance challenges posed by increasingly autonomous decision-support tools in population health contexts. Finally, a session on Climate Change and Public Health will explore the intersection of environmental data science and health outcomes.
Format and Participation
The event will feature keynote lectures, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and a poster session. The organizers have identified a broad target audience spanning public health researchers, epidemiologists, data scientists and AI researchers, healthcare professionals, digital health experts, policymakers and regulators, as well as early-career researchers and students.
