SCHOTT Pharma Launches Industry's Smallest Sterile 1.5 ml RTU Cartridge for GLP-1, Insulin, and Hormone Therapies
核心洞察
SCHOTT Pharma introduces the smallest sterile ready-to-use cartridge at 1.5 ml, expanding its cartriQ portfolio for insulin, GLP-1 (搜索) drugs, and hormone therapies.
The new format, featuring an optimized diamond-shaped nest design, boosts pharmaceutical filling efficiency by up to 67% and reduces supply chain CO2 emissions by nearly 25%.
The cartridge is compatible with a broad range of pen injectors, including Ypsomed (搜索)'s UnoPen, supporting the shift toward self-administration and homecare for chronic diseases.
SCHOTT Pharma has unveiled a new 1.5 ml sterile ready-to-use (RTU) cartridge, marking the smallest format in the company's cartriQ portfolio to date. The launch addresses growing demand for compact, high-quality containment solutions tailored to the stable storage and delivery of insulin, GLP-1 (搜索) receptor agonists, and hormone therapies. By introducing this ISO-compliant format, SCHOTT Pharma strengthens its position as a leading provider of drug containment and delivery systems while enabling pharmaceutical manufacturers to streamline production and bring medications to market faster.
Driving efficiency in pharmaceutical manufacturing
The new 1.5 ml cartridge was developed with a state-of-the-art siliconisation process and incorporates SCHOTT Pharma's recently introduced diamond-shaped nest design. This configuration enhances filling line efficiency by up to 67% compared to conventional formats, while simultaneously cutting CO2 emissions by nearly 25% across the supply chain. These gains reflect a broader industry shift toward RTU systems that allow drug makers to outsource washing, siliconisation, crimping, and sterilisation steps.
"For our RTU products, we handle washing, siliconisation, crimping, and sterilisation processes from pharmaceutical manufacturers. This enables them to increase efficiency, reduce total cost of ownership, and accelerate time-to-market for their medications," said Andreas Reisse, CEO of SCHOTT Pharma. "Our approach creates high-value solutions for our customers and supports our strategy to increase revenue from these offerings."
The standardized nest-and-tub configuration, combined with pre-washed and pre-sterilised containment, provides pharmaceutical companies and contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) with flexible, scalable production pathways.
Enabling self-administration and homecare
The 1.5 ml sterile cartridge is designed for compatibility with a broad range of pen injectors, including Ypsomed (搜索)'s UnoPen, offering pharmaceutical companies a pre-tested system that integrates both container and device. This interoperability supports the growing trend toward self-administration of medications at home, particularly for chronic conditions such as diabetes (搜索), obesity (搜索), and growth hormone deficiency (搜索).
SCHOTT Pharma is collaborating closely with leading device manufacturers like Ypsomed (搜索) to simplify at-home drug delivery. The shift toward homecare not only improves patient quality of life but also reduces strain on healthcare systems by minimizing the need for in-clinic administration.
Strategic portfolio expansion
The introduction of the 1.5 ml cartridge aligns with SCHOTT Pharma's strategic objective of expanding its high-value RTU portfolio. By offering the smallest sterile format available, the company aims to meet the specific needs of biologic and peptide-based therapies that require precise, low-volume dosing in a stable containment environment. The move also reinforces SCHOTT Pharma's commitment to innovation and collaboration as key pillars driving progress in pharmaceutical manufacturing and patient-centric drug delivery.
