Shoulder Innovations Wins FDA 510(k) Clearance for N-22 Humeral Head, Launches Titanium Implant for Metal-Sensitive Patients
核心洞察
Shoulder Innovations received FDA 510(k) clearance for its N-22 Humeral Head (搜索), a titanium implant option designed for patients with metal hypersensitivity (搜索).
The company simultaneously initiated full commercial launch of the device, its second product on a new line of technologies for metal-sensitive patients.
The N-22 Humeral Head (搜索) is intended for anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty and complements the N-22 Glenosphere (搜索), cleared in January 2026 for reverse procedures.
Shoulder Innovations, Inc. (NYSE: SI) announced on Sept. 10, 2026 that it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for the N-22 Humeral Head (搜索), a titanium implant option developed for patients with metal hypersensitivity (搜索), and has initiated the product's full commercial launch. The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based commercial-stage medical technology company focuses exclusively on the shoulder surgical care market.
The clearance marks the second product introduction on the company's new line of technologies for metal-sensitive patients, following the N-22 Glenosphere (搜索) implant cleared in January 2026.
Addressing Metal Hypersensitivity in Shoulder Arthroplasty
According to the company, approximately 10% to 15% of the general population test positively for metal hypersensitivity (搜索) and may experience persistent pain or other symptoms associated with allergic reactions from metal implants. The N-22 Humeral Head (搜索) is designed for use in anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty procedures involving patients with these complications.
The device complements the company's N-22 Glenosphere (搜索) implant, which is used in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty procedures in the same patient population. Together, the two implants provide a metal-sensitive option across both shoulder arthroplasty configurations.
"The N-22 Humeral Head (搜索) augments our line of technologies for patients with metal hypersensitivity (搜索), now providing surgeons with a metal-sensitive option across both shoulder arthroplasty configurations," said Rob Ball, CEO of Shoulder Innovations. "As we continue to expand our commercial footprint across the U.S., even small incremental additions to our product line can have a meaningful impact on our relationships with surgeons and operating centers."
Commercial Strategy and Product Ecosystem
Shoulder Innovations describes itself as a commercial-stage medical technology company with a current offering of advanced implant systems for shoulder arthroplasty. These systems form a core element of the company's ecosystem, which is designed to improve core components of shoulder surgical care — preoperative planning, implant design and procedural efficiency — to benefit each stakeholder in the care chain.
The ecosystem also comprises enabling technologies, efficient instrument systems, specialized support and surgeon-to-surgeon collaboration. According to the company, these elements together seek to address long-standing clinical and operational challenges in the shoulder surgical care market by delivering predictable outcomes, procedural simplicity and efficiency across all sites of care.
