The company's rabies (搜索) vaccine (PVRV-SF (搜索)) received NMPA marketing approval on August 4, 2026, and the NDA for its bivalent enterovirus vaccine (HFMD2 (搜索)) was accepted for priority review.
Net loss attributable to common shareholders widened to $60.2 million, or $0.84 per share, from $21.7 million in the prior-year period.
Sinovac Biotech Ltd. (NASDAQ: SVA) reported unaudited financial results for the six months ended June 30, 2026, posting total sales of $147.1 million, a 12.9% increase over the $130.3 million recorded in the prior-year period. The growth was driven primarily by a sustained expansion of the company's overseas business, which rose 82.3% to $66.5 million and accounted for approximately 45.2% of total revenue.
Mr. Weidong Yin, CEO of SINOVAC, attributed the performance to the company's globalization strategy. "In the first half of 2026, SINOVAC delivered steady revenue growth, driven primarily by the sustained expansion of overseas business. Overseas revenue rose 82.3% and accounted for 45.2% of total revenue, demonstrating the continued optimization of our revenue mix under the Company's globalization strategy," Yin said.
Overseas Growth and Domestic Headwinds
The varicella vaccine and the Sabin-strain inactivated poliomyelitis (搜索) vaccine (sIPV) recorded the fastest sales growth during the period, primarily driven by increased orders from international organizations. Sales of the varicella vaccine increased 62.4% to $48.5 million, representing approximately 33.0% of total sales in the first half of 2026, while sIPV sales rose 35.3%. The tetanus (搜索) vaccine, which commenced commercial shipments in December 2025, contributed incremental revenue during the period.
In the Chinese Mainland market, the continued decline in births dampened demand for certain products. The company also secured initial marketing authorizations for multiple products, including its varicella, hepatitis A, and 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccines, across 12 international markets, expanding its addressable markets.
Pipeline Advances Toward Commercialization
SINOVAC currently has five late-stage product candidates in its pipeline: the bivalent enterovirus vaccine (HFMD2 (搜索)), the quadrivalent enterovirus vaccine (HFMD4), the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13), the group ACYW135 meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4), and the fully human anti-tetanus (搜索) toxin monoclonal antibody (HmAb-TT (搜索)). The company expects to submit an NDA for PCV13 in the third quarter of 2026.
The rabies (搜索) vaccine (Vero Cell) for human use, freeze-dried (PVRV-SF (搜索)), received marketing approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on August 4, 2026. Developed using a serum-free, animal-origin-free manufacturing process, the vaccine has been included in a supply agreement under the Productive Development Partnership (PDP) program with Brazil's Ministry of Health, and the company plans to submit a WHO prequalification (WHO PQ) application in the near term.
The bivalent enterovirus vaccine (HFMD2 (搜索)) had its marketing authorization application formally accepted for review by the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) of the NMPA on July 10, 2026, and was granted priority review designation. It has the potential to become the world's first approved bivalent enterovirus vaccine against hand, foot and mouth disease (搜索).
Financial Performance
Gross profit increased to $95.5 million from $81.5 million in the prior-year period, with gross profit margin rising from 62.5% to 65.0%, driven by a favorable shift in product and channel mix toward higher-margin international sales and improved production cost efficiencies. Research and development expenses decreased to $83.2 million from $126.9 million, reflecting different phases of development projects and ongoing expense-reduction initiatives.
Net loss attributable to common shareholders widened to $60.2 million, or $0.84 per basic and diluted share, compared to $21.7 million, or $0.30 per share, in the prior-year period. The increase was mainly due to a greater portion of the net loss being incurred by subsidiaries without minority shareholders, which experienced higher losses from increased general and administrative expenses and lower investment income.
As of June 30, 2026, cash and cash equivalents and restricted cash totaled $998.5 million, compared to $1.2 billion as of December 31, 2025. The company's financial statements for the first half of 2026 are prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP but have not been audited by its independent registered accounting firm.
