Sōlaria Biō's Bondia™ Demonstrates 85% Improvement in Bone Density Through Novel Gut-Bone Axis Targeting
核心洞察
Bondia™ (搜索), a first-in-class synbiotic medical food, reduced bone loss (搜索) in the femoral neck by 85% in postmenopausal women with osteopenia (搜索) compared to placebo in a landmark clinical trial.
The breakthrough study published in Osteoporosis (搜索) International represents the largest-ever probiotic medical food trial for bone health, following 286 postmenopausal women.
New mechanistic research published in the Journal for Functional Foods demonstrates how Bondia™ (搜索) strengthens gut barrier integrity, reduces inflammation, and directly inhibits bone-resorbing osteoclast activity.
Sōlaria Biō (搜索) has announced breakthrough clinical results demonstrating that its synbiotic medical food Bondia™ (搜索) can reduce bone loss (搜索) by 85% in postmenopausal women with osteopenia (搜索), marking the first major innovation in bone health in 15 years. The findings, published in Osteoporosis (搜索) International, represent the largest-ever probiotic medical food trial for bone health and offer a novel approach to addressing the silent epidemic of bone loss that affects nearly 70% of postmenopausal women.
Clinical Trial Results Show Significant Bone Protection
The peer-reviewed study followed 286 postmenopausal women and found that daily consumption of Bondia™ (搜索) significantly slowed bone loss (搜索) compared to placebo. Most notably, the treatment reduced bone loss in the femoral neck by 85% in women with osteopenia (搜索) compared to placebo. The study also demonstrated that among postmenopausal women with osteopenia, Bondia™ significantly outperformed placebo in protecting bone density at key skeletal sites.
"For decades, treatment options for bone loss (搜索) have been limited, especially for women with early-stage bone density loss," said Susan Bukata, MD, Chair of UCSD (搜索)'s Department of Orthopedic Surgery and one of the study authors. "Bondia™ (搜索) is a groundbreaking prospect for women with osteopenia (搜索) and clinicians seeking a wider variety of treatment options."
The clinical benefits were observed even though both treatment and placebo groups received vitamin D supplementation, highlighting Bondia™ (搜索)'s distinct mechanism of action. Exploratory biomarkers suggested the product's ability to reduce bone breakdown, supporting its role in maintaining healthy bone density.
Novel Mechanism Targets Gut-Bone Axis
Complementing the clinical findings, new mechanistic research published in the December 2025 issue of the Journal for Functional Foods reveals exactly how Bondia™ (搜索) functions at the cellular level. The study demonstrates three key mechanisms of action:
The synbiotic strengthens the gut barrier by enhancing epithelial barrier integrity, reducing the movement of inflammatory molecules into the bloodstream and addressing "leaky gut," a major driver of systemic inflammation. Additionally, Bondia™ (搜索) reduces inflammatory immune signals in immune-cell models that mimic inflammation associated with aging and elevated body fat levels.
Most significantly, the research shows that Bondia™ (搜索) reduces osteoclast activity and directly inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, as evidenced by lower levels of TRAP (搜索) and CTX-1 biomarkers.
"This study represents the first clinically validated, microbiome-based approach to protecting bone density," said Eric Schott, PhD, lead author of the clinical study. "Bondia™ (搜索) provides a new nutritional tool for women with early-stage bone loss (搜索), a group that has historically had few effective options."
Addressing Critical Treatment Gap
The breakthrough comes at a crucial time, as research indicates bone loss (搜索) affects both women and men well before traditional screening begins at age 65, leaving a critical 15-20 year gap for early intervention. Bondia™ (搜索) helps slow age-related bone loss that begins as early as age 35, particularly targeting the inflammation that drives bone deterioration during menopause when declining estrogen levels disrupt the gut-immune balance.
"We are working to shift the bone health conversation toward early intervention, rather than waiting for osteoporosis (搜索) to develop," said Catherine Balsam-Schwaber, CEO of Sōlaria Biō (搜索). "These findings provide strong, peer-reviewed evidence for how gut-targeted intervention can create a preventative foundation before bone loss (搜索) reaches critical levels."
Ongoing Research and Future Trials
Building on these promising results, Sōlaria Biō (搜索) is collaborating with investigators at the Harvard Medical School affiliate Hebrew SeniorLife (搜索)'s Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research to conduct the Study To Attenuate Resorption of Skeleton (STARS) trial. This large clinical trial, funded by the National Institute on Aging, will test whether Bondia™ (搜索) (SBD111) helps manage bone loss (搜索) over 18 months in 220 women aged 60 years and above.
The multi-institutional collaboration includes Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Maine Medical Center (搜索), and Tufts University, reflecting the significant scientific interest in this novel approach to bone health.
Unlike traditional drugs or dietary supplements, Bondia™ (搜索) is classified as a medical food designed to provide targeted nutritional support for specific health conditions that cannot be managed through diet alone. To qualify as a medical food, products must meet FDA-defined criteria, ensuring rigorous standards for safety and efficacy.
The product is now available for order directly through solaria.bio and through partner healthcare providers, offering a new option for the more than half of women over 50 affected by osteopenia (搜索) or osteoporosis (搜索).
