Breakthrough in Immunotherapy-Resistant Cancer
The study evaluated THT in combination with PD-1 inhibitor (搜索) immunotherapy using an immunologically "cold" colorectal cancer (搜索) (CT26) model. This type of cancer (搜索) model is particularly significant because it represents tumors that typically resist standard immunotherapy treatments.
The combination protocol involved tumor-bearing animals receiving two consecutive THT treatments alongside a standard PD-1 inhibitor (搜索), followed by three additional PD-1 (搜索) treatments. Animals were monitored for 45 days following treatment initiation, with 38% of those receiving the combined therapy remaining alive and disease-free at the study's conclusion.

Rapid Tumor Response and Biological Insights
Dr. Carman Giacomantonio, Sona's chief medical officer and the study's principal investigator, highlighted the remarkable speed of the treatment response. The 38% of treated tumors that were fully cleared achieved this outcome within 24 days of treatment initiation and remained cancer (搜索)-free throughout the study duration.

Technology and Mechanism
Targeted Hyperthermia uses gold nanorods that absorb infrared light and re-emit it as therapeutic heat (42-48°C) within tumors. This controlled heating stimulates the immune system, shrinks tumors, inactivates cancer (搜索) stem cells, and increases tumor perfusion, potentially enabling drugs to reach all tumor compartments more effectively.
