Leadership Transition Builds on Long-Standing Collaboration
Brown brings more than 25 years of metabolism research experience to his new role, having previously collaborated with Stealth for nearly 15 years as a scientific collaborator and consultant before joining the company full-time in 2019. His scientific expertise spans basic mitochondrial biology through bioenergetic dysfunction in various pathologies, with extensive experience designing and testing novel approaches to target cellular energy production.

Academic Background and Industry Experience
Prior to his full-time role at Stealth, Brown served as a tenured professor and held numerous academic leadership roles. He led a mitochondrial research laboratory that collaborated with biotechnology companies focused on treating neurodegenerative, metabolic, genetic, ophthalmic, and cardiac pathologies (搜索). At Stealth, he most recently served as Senior Vice President of Discovery, overseeing the company's drug discovery team and portfolio expansion efforts.
Brown has authored hundreds of scientific publications, served as an expert reviewer for funding agencies and scientific journals, and founded two consulting companies. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech, a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, and completed post-doctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Pipeline Advancement Following FDA Approval
The appointment comes as Stealth builds on its recent milestone of delivering what the company describes as the first-ever mitochondria (搜索)-targeted therapy to patients. The company's first commercial product received accelerated approval from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in September 2025.

Current Development Portfolio
Stealth is currently studying elamipretide in additional indications, including dry age-related macular degeneration (搜索) and primary mitochondrial disease (搜索) due to nuclear DNA mutations, including in polymerase gamma (搜索). The company is also developing its next-in-class clinical-stage candidate, bevemipretide, for ophthalmic and neurological disease indications.
The company's preclinical pipeline includes candidates SBT-589 and SBT-255 (搜索), both of which are progressing through developmental milestones. McCarthy emphasized that the executive team expansion "paves the way for continued innovation in a range of mitochondrial diseases and solidifies our position as the pioneer in mitochondrial medicine."
