STERIS plc (搜索) is investing $600 million to build a formulated chemistries manufacturing and distribution Center of Excellence near the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle in North Carolina.
The 600,000-square-foot campus will produce high-performance infection prevention and contamination control chemistries for the global healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
Construction will occur in phases with distribution operations expected to begin in 2–3 years, eventually transitioning manufacturing from facilities in St. Louis, Missouri and Plymouth, Minnesota.
STERIS plc (搜索), the Dublin-based global provider of infection prevention products and services, has announced plans to invest $600 million in a new formulated chemistries manufacturing and distribution Center of Excellence in North Carolina. The facility will be located near the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle region and represents the largest single-site manufacturing investment in the company's history.
The state-of-the-art campus will span 600,000 square feet and serve as a central hub for producing high-performance infection prevention and contamination control chemistries used across the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. Construction will proceed in multiple phases, with distribution operations expected to come online within two to three years. Upon full completion, STERIS intends to transition its existing chemistries manufacturing and distribution operations from St. Louis, Missouri and Plymouth, Minnesota to the new site.
"After extensive analysis of our existing facilities and Customer demand, we have decided to make a significant investment in the United States to support our long-term global growth," said Dan Carestio, President and CEO of STERIS. "Creating a formulated chemistries Center of Excellence will allow us to accelerate innovation, expand capacity and optimize our U.S. chemistries manufacturing and distribution network. Our Customers save lives every day, and with this investment we will be well positioned to support their needs for years to come."
The project is expected to create approximately 335 jobs spanning manufacturing, research and development, distribution, and operations. North Carolina was selected based on several factors, including the availability of key technical knowledge and skills in a growing region. The investment is supported by the State of North Carolina, Lee County, the city of Sanford, and their associated economic development programs.
North Carolina Governor Josh Stein emphasized the significance of the investment for the state's life sciences sector. "STERIS is making a major investment in North Carolina, which reinforces our state's reputation as a powerhouse in the life sciences industry," Stein said. "Decades of excellence in manufacturing and innovation have developed the world-class talent, research, and supply chain that continues to attract global companies and drive long-term economic growth across our state."
The new Center of Excellence will focus on formulated chemistries that support sterilization and disinfection processes critical to patient care and pharmaceutical manufacturing. By consolidating and modernizing its U.S. chemistries operations, STERIS aims to enhance its capacity to meet growing global demand while driving innovation in infection prevention technologies.
