Strand Therapeutics Names Kunal Bhatia as CFO to Scale Programmable mRNA Platform
核心洞察
Strand Therapeutics (搜索) appointed Kunal Bhatia (搜索) as Chief Financial Officer, bringing 15 years of investment banking experience from over 100 biopharmaceutical companies.
The appointment follows significant milestones including a $153 million Series B funding round and initial Phase 1 data for STX-001 in advanced solid tumor patients.
Strand is advancing its programmable mRNA platform with STX-003 expected to enter clinical trials in mid-2026 for tumor-targeted expression.
Strand Therapeutics (搜索), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing programmable mRNA medicines, announced the appointment of Kunal Bhatia (搜索) as Chief Financial Officer. The appointment positions the company to scale its innovative platform as it advances multiple clinical programs and expands its pipeline across oncology and autoimmune diseases.
Leadership Addition Supports Clinical Momentum
Bhatia brings 15 years of investment banking experience, having driven fundraising, business development, and M&A activities for over 100 public and private biopharmaceutical companies. Prior to joining Strand, he served as interim Chief Financial Officer and Chief Business Officer to a portfolio of private life sciences companies and was previously a Managing Director in the Healthcare Investment Banking Group at Cowen (搜索).
"With early validation of our platform in the clinic, we have built a pipeline from solid tumor immuno-oncology to systemic delivery to in vivo cell therapy," said Jake Becraft (搜索), PhD, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Strand Therapeutics (搜索). "Having worked alongside some of the most ambitious biotech builders through capital raises and transactions, Kunal knows what it takes to scale innovative platform companies through their critical growth stages."
Recent Corporate and Clinical Milestones
The CFO appointment follows several significant achievements over the past year. Strand completed a $153 million Series B funding round led by Kinnevik (搜索) with participation from Regeneron Ventures (搜索), Amgen Ventures (搜索), and Eli Lilly. The company also made four leadership additions across its executive team and Board of Directors and reported initial Phase 1 data for STX-001 in patients with advanced solid tumors (搜索) who had exhausted other treatment options.
"Strand is at an inflection point, with clinical momentum, a growing pipeline, and the kind of investor syndicate that reflects real conviction in the platform," said Bhatia. "I'm looking forward to working with the team to build on that foundation as the company enters its next phase."
Advancing Programmable mRNA Platform
Strand's proprietary Signal Stack platform integrates multiple RNA technologies including EverScript circular RNA, AmpliScript self-replicating RNA, SignalPath targeted delivery, and logic-driven SignalLock genetic circuits. This integrated approach enables precise control of therapeutic activity across tissues and cell types while addressing foundational limitations in targeting, durability, and safety.
The company's lead program, STX-001, is an intratumorally delivered LNP-encapsulated self-replicating RNA expressing IL-12 (搜索) that has demonstrated preliminary evidence of systemic immune activation and anti-tumor activity in patients with advanced solid tumors (搜索) who have progressed on prior therapies.
Pipeline Expansion and Future Clinical Entry
Building on early clinical validation, Strand is preparing to advance STX-003, an intravenously delivered program designed for tumor-targeted expression and avoidance of off-target expression. STX-003 is expected to enter clinical trials in mid-2026 and has the potential to represent a major advancement for genetic medicine and oncology.
The company is also developing STX-005, an in vivo CAR-T program designed to enable controlled, durable expression and repeat dosing. Founded by MIT synthetic biology pioneers, Strand has raised over $250 million in total funding and maintains headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.
As Strand continues to expand its platform across modalities and indications, Bhatia's financial and strategic expertise positions the company to execute on its growth trajectory and advance its programmable mRNA therapeutics toward broader clinical applications.
