Sun Pharma Implements CAPA at Halol Facility While Addressing USFDA Compliance Issues Across Three Manufacturing Sites

Regulatory Compliance Challenges
The pharmaceutical giant is facing USFDA (搜索) compliance-related issues at three key facilities. The Halol facility received an import alert, while the Mohali facility received a non-compliance letter, both during FY23. Additionally, the Dadra facility was accorded an Official Action Indicated (OAI) status in FY24.
"We have completed the implementation of Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) in the Halol facility, which is currently awaiting US FDA inspection, and we are in the process of implementing CAPA at the Mohali and Dadra facilities," Shanghvi stated in the company's annual report for 2024-25.
Despite these challenges, Shanghvi emphasized that all other facilities remain compliant with global regulatory standards, including those of USFDA (搜索).
Strong Financial Performance Amid Challenges
Sun Pharma demonstrated robust financial performance in FY25, with global consolidated revenues growing by 9.0% to Rs 520 billion. The company's EBITDA increased by 17.3% to Rs 153 billion, while adjusted net profit rose by 19.0% to Rs 120 billion.
The company's specialty products segment showed particularly strong growth, with global specialty revenue posting a 17.1% increase to reach $1,216 million during FY25. Key products including Ilumya, Winlevi, Cequa, and Odomzo continued to perform well globally.
US Market Performance and Impact
In the US market, Sun Pharma's revenue increased by 5.8% to Rs 162 billion, representing approximately 31% of consolidated revenues. "Our growth in the US has been driven by Specialty sales, with several products gaining sustained traction," Shanghvi noted.
However, the generics business in the US was adversely affected by the ongoing compliance issues at the company's manufacturing facilities, highlighting the direct impact of regulatory challenges on business operations.
R&D Investment Strategy
Looking ahead, Sun Pharma plans to significantly increase its research and development investments. The company invested 6.2% of total sales in R&D during FY25 and expects to allocate 6-8% of sales to R&D in FY26, with increased spending specifically targeted toward specialty products.
"FY25 also proved to be an eventful year in terms of enhancing our Specialty pipeline," Shanghvi added, indicating the company's strategic focus on building its specialty pharmaceutical portfolio despite current regulatory hurdles.
