Synthetic Peptide Pep19 Shows Promise in Reducing Visceral Fat and Improving Sleep in Obese Adults
核心洞察
A triple-blind clinical trial involving 24 obese adults demonstrated that Pep19 (搜索), a synthetic peptide, achieved a 17% reduction in visceral fat over 60 days without affecting lean body mass.
The study showed that both 2mg and 5mg doses of Pep19 (搜索) improved sleep quality in all participants, with the peptide administered orally once daily before bedtime.
Researchers found that Pep19 (搜索) works through the endocannabinoid system to regulate metabolism and can transform white fat into metabolically active brown fat.
A collaborative study between researchers from Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Proteimax Biotechnology (搜索) (Israel), and the University of São Paulo (搜索)'s Biomedical Sciences Institute has demonstrated that Pep19 (搜索), a synthetic peptide, significantly reduces visceral fat and improves sleep quality in obese adults. The findings, published in Diabetes Metabolism Research and Reviews, represent a potential breakthrough in addressing metabolic disorders through a novel therapeutic approach.
Clinical Trial Design and Methodology
The research team conducted a 60-day triple-blind clinical trial involving 24 volunteers aged 46-59 years with body weights between 91-106 kg and BMI ranging from 30-35 kg/m². Participants were randomly divided into three groups: placebo, 2mg Pep19 (搜索), and 5mg Pep19, with the peptide administered orally in capsules once daily before bedtime.
"They were divided into three groups: placebo, 2 milligrams of Pep19 (搜索), and 5 milligrams of Pep19, administered orally in capsules once a day before bedtime," explained Emer Suavinho Ferro, professor at ICB-USP's Department of Pharmacology and head of the Intracellular Peptide Pharmacology Laboratory.
Significant Visceral Fat Reduction
The most striking result emerged from the 5mg Pep19 (搜索) group, which achieved a 17% reduction in visceral fat without any changes in lean body mass. This finding is particularly significant given visceral fat's strong association with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The study evaluated multiple parameters including quality of life, body composition, anthropometric measurements, and biochemical markers.
Sleep Quality Improvements Across All Doses
All participants who received Pep19 (搜索), regardless of dose concentration, demonstrated improved sleep quality. This dual benefit addresses a critical connection between sleep disorders and obesity, as poor sleep quality contributes to obesity and its adverse metabolic effects.
"The findings are very exciting – Pep19 (搜索) not only improved sleep but also reduced abdominal fat," said Dr. Prachi Singh, Associate Professor and Director of the Sleep and Cardiometabolic Health Lab at Pennington Biomedical. "This supports the growing understanding that sleep and fat metabolism are deeply interconnected and vital to overall health."
Mechanism of Action Through Endocannabinoid System
Pep19 (搜索) operates through the endocannabinoid system, which plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism, appetite, lipolysis (fat breakdown), and energy release. The synthetic peptide is based on a naturally occurring peptide found in human cells, and previous animal studies have demonstrated its anti-obesity effects alongside improvements in blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure indicators.
Fat Transformation Properties
Beyond fat reduction, researchers observed that Pep19 (搜索) facilitates the transformation of white fat into brown fat. "We can also see that the peptide was able to transform part of the white fat, which serves as an energy reserve for the body, into brown fat, which is used for the body's energy production, increasing calorie burning to generate energy and heat," explained Andrea Heimann, a researcher from Proteimax Biotechnology (搜索).
Safety Profile and Future Directions
The study reported no observed side effects, reinforcing Pep19 (搜索)'s potential as a safe therapeutic option. However, researchers emphasize that more extensive and longer-term clinical studies are necessary to confirm these preliminary findings.
"This is excellent news, as metabolic problems are one of the great evils of the century, and we face them without many truly effective options," Heimann noted. The research team is currently conducting additional studies to validate these results.
"New studies are currently underway, and if the results obtained so far are confirmed, Pep19 (搜索) could become a revolutionary solution for improving the metabolic health and quality of life of millions of people," Ferro concluded.
